Job summary

T. Musselman Excavating is seeking a Pipelayer / Pipe Crew Skilled Labourer to support or lead sewer and watermain installation projects. This hands-on role is outdoors, fast-paced, and requires teamwork, safety discipline, and precise workmanship.

You will work with PVC, concrete, and precast structures, operate pipe lasers and grade controls, and help ensure design specifications are met. 3+ years of relevant experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support or lead the installation of sewer and watermain systems to design specifications (PVC, concrete, etc.).
• Install pipe and precast structures, ensuring proper alignment, grade, and joint integrity.
• Assist with or operate pipe lasers and grade controls in coordination with Foreman/Supervisor.
• Performing benching and parging of manholes and catch basins.
• Assist with backfilling, compaction, and grading activities.
• Operate small equipment such as skid steers, excavators, and packers as required.
• Identify site challenges and contribute to practical solutions to maintain production and quality.
• Support and learn from experienced crew members, or mentor others if experienced.
• Ensure tools, materials, and site conditions are prepared for efficient daily operations.
• Complete required safety documentation, inspections, and daily paperwork.
• Maintain a strong focus on health and safety, ensuring compliance with all company policies and procedures.
• Perform physically demanding work, including lifting, carrying, and working in trenches.
• Other duties as assigned.

Position Summary

As a Pipelayer / Pipe Crew Skilled Labourer, you play a key role in the safe, accurate, and efficient installation of underground infrastructure, including storm, sanitary sewer, and watermain systems.

This is a hands-on role suited for individuals across a range of experience levels. Depending on your experience, you may take a lead role in pipe installation and crew support, or work alongside experienced team members to develop your skills and contribute to overall site productivity and quality.

Your day typically begins with preparing for the work ahead, organizing tools and materials, reviewing plans, and setting up the site for success. From there, you will support or lead pipe installation activities, including laying pipe, installing precast structures, and assisting with grade and alignment using pipe lasers and site controls.You take pride in doing the job right the first time. Whether experienced or developing, you contribute by working safely, supporting your team, and maintaining a high standard of workmanship.

This role is fast-paced, physically demanding, and primarily outdoors. It combines skilled labour, technical precision, and small equipment operation, requiring a proactive mindset and strong teamwork.

• Strong understanding of underground servicing practices, specifications, and drawings
