The South Health Campus has four key pillars of service: Collaborative Practice, Wellness, Patient and Family Centered Care, and Innovation. These pillars guide the development and delivery of services to all patients and families at SHC. This Physiotherapist I position is part of the Allied Health team. Under supervision from the Allied Health Assistant Manager and support from the PT Clinical Practice Lead, the caseload includes assessment and treatment of patients referred to outpatient (Bone and Joint Clinics) and inpatient orthopedic and surgical programs, with coverage and support in other acute care areas. The role requires excellent organizational and time management skills to handle a busy multidisciplinary environment, along with problem solving, critical thinking, and conflict resolution skills. The position offers opportunities to participate in developing, implementing, and evaluating programs and services specific to South Health Campus. Weekend coverage on a rotational basis is required, and staff may work in various settings across the Campus. The caseload may change based on operational needs. This role is physically demanding, involving repetitive lifting and transferring of patients and equipment.
As a Physiotherapist I, you will provide therapeutic interventions to help clients achieve optimal physical function and independence, addressing development, disease, disability, chronic conditions, and functional decline. Your responsibilities include prevention, triage, screening, assessment, diagnosis, goal setting, treatment, management, education, consultation, resourcefulness fostering, case management, referral, and transition support for individuals, groups, populations, and communities. You will involve clients and families as active members of the healthcare team, collaborating with them in planning and evaluating rehabilitation strategies. Participation in interprofessional teams to promote awareness, support, and quality improvement is essential, along with peer mentoring and supervision of students. You may also supervise Therapy Assistants, Therapy Aides, and Provisional Physiotherapists.
Required: Bachelor's degree in Physiotherapy from an accredited university, current registration with the College of Physiotherapists of Alberta, and BCLS-HCP certification.
Preferred: Over 3 years of experience in settings such as multidisciplinary clinics with post-surgical patients, adult urban acute care/hospital, or inpatient orthopedic environments. Knowledge of Alberta Bone and Joint Health Institute’s Care Paths for Hip and Knee Conditions, experience with Connect Care, and completion of the Allied Health Therapies ILT are advantageous.
