Job summary

Nova Scotia Health Authority in Halifax is seeking a Physiotherapist to join the Bone & Joint Inpatient Physiotherapy team at QEII. The successful candidate will assess, diagnose and treat patients in a tertiary care setting, using a range of therapies to regain function.

You will educate patients and collaborate with an interdisciplinary team, supervise students and assistants, and may work weekend shifts.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Physiotherapy from an accredited university.
  • Registration with the Nova Scotia College of Physiotherapists.
  • Current BCLS certification.
  • Inpatient acute care experience is an asset.
  • Experience in orthopedics, burns and/or plastics is an asset.
  • WHMIS training and certification.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Multilingual abilities an asset (French preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Assess, diagnose and treat patients in a tertiary inpatient setting.
  • Develop holistic treatment programs using exercises and modalities.
  • Educate patients and communicate with other health disciplines.
  • Supervise physiotherapy students and assistants.
  • Collaborate with the team to set goals and evaluate effectiveness.
  • Work weekends as needed.

About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Program Manager of the Bone & Joint department within the Rehabilitation and Supportive Care Services portfolio, the Physiotherapist assesses, diagnoses and treats patients in a tertiary care setting who present with actual or potential impairment, pain, functional limitations or disabilities. Physiotherapy assessment involves obtaining a detailed medical history, performing specific and standardized tests and evaluation procedures to determine a physical diagnosis. Holistic treatment programs are developed using exercises, education, and manual, mechanical, electrical and hydrotherapy techniques to assist the patient in regaining and/or maintaining an optimal level of function. The Physiotherapist educates and communicates with other health disciplines, the general public, family members and caregivers with regard to health promotion, physiotherapy treatment and patient management. The Physiotherapist provides supervision and evaluation of physiotherapy students and supervision of physiotherapy assistants and aides. The Physiotherapist collaborates with colleagues to determine team goals and objectives, participates in the evaluation of team effectiveness, and solves problems and shares responsibilities. Physiotherapists work on weekends in many areas of the hospital.

The successful applicant may be required to provide services throughout the Rehabilitation & Supportive Care portfolio.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Masters's degree or equivalent in Physiotherapy from an accredited university
  • Membership with the Nova Scotia College of Physiotherapists
  • Current BCLS certification
  • Previous experience in inpatient acute care considered an asset
  • Previous experience in orthopedics, burns and/or plastics considered an asset
  • Annual Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System training and certification (WHMIS)
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills are required.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
Hours
  • Permanent full-time position; 75 hours biweekly
Compensation and Benefits

$38.43 - $50.99 hourly
Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
