Job summary

William Osler Health System in Ontario is seeking a Physician Assistant to join the Emergency Department, working under a supervising physician and within medical directives to provide patient-focused care. You will conduct patient interviews, perform examinations, organize labs and diagnostics, and develop treatment plans in collaboration with physicians and the care team.

Necessary certifications include BCLS, ACLS, PALS, and NALS; ED experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Graduate of the Physician Assistant Bachelor's degree at McMaster University or the University of Toronto consortium.
• Certified through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant (NCCPA).
• Certified or eligible for the Physician Assistant Certification Council.
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Paediatric Advanced Life Support and Neonatal Advanced Life Support are mandatory.
• Experience working in an Emergency Department is preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and with respect in both verbal and written format with patients and health care teams.
• Demonstrated competency to perform clinical assessment and develop a treatment plan per medical directives.
• Proven problem solving and critical thinking skills.
• Ability to work in a collaborative medical model with all health care team members.

Job Description

Working with a team of health professionals in an inter-professional collaborative model and under the supervision and/or delegation of a supervising physician (and in accordance with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario's policy on delegation) the Physician Assistant will provide quality patient focused care to patients in the Emergency Department under medical directives or direct orders.

• Performing certain controlled acts under medical directives delegated to you by a physician
• Counselling patients on preventive health care
• Organizing patient follow-up
• Performing other duties within your competencies as a physician assistant

Additional Information

Hours: Currently Days/Evenings, 8 and 12 hours shifts (subject to change in accordance with operational requirements)

Salary

Minimum: $52.36 per hour

Maximum: $64.98 per hour
