Job summary

RONA is seeking an experienced Physical Inventory Manager to lead inventory activities across Quebec and Ontario, with frequent travel and hands-on variance analysis. The role combines field work with corporate processes to ensure accurate counts and reporting.

The ideal candidate has a college diploma, 3+ years in retail inventory, strong Excel and office software skills, and the ability to coordinate with store teams and distribution sites. Travel and a valid driver’s license are required.

Qualifications

• College diploma in a relevant field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in retail; home improvement/construction is a plus.
• Hands-on experience with physical inventories, inventory control, store operations or variance analysis.
• Strong analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and ability to build relationships with internal/external stakeholders.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook); MMS and SODA knowledge is a plus.
• Willingness to travel across Ontario and other regions; valid driver’s license and vehicle.
• Able to work evenings and some weekends during inventory events.

• Support stores during the inventory preparation process and conduct follow-ups.

• Ensure proper inventory counting, control and verification processes.
• Conduct physical verifications and audits to confirm counts.
• Identify, investigate and analyze inventory variances with justification.
• Record final inventory counts in MMS and SODA.
• Collaborate with Store Managers and internal teams to resolve inventory issues.
• Participate in inventories at distribution and direct delivery centres.

This is primarily a field-based position that requires frequent travel between store locations across primarily in Quebec and Ontario (1-2 times a month), as well as occasional travel to the Western region. The successful candidate must be comfortable with extensive travel and spending a significant amount of time on the road.

Physical Inventory Manager

Responsibilities

• Bilingualism (French and English), both written and spoken. Frequent communications with internal/external partners and/or clients/employees outside of Québec and Travel required outside of Québec.
• Participate in the development of the annual physical inventory schedule for the assigned territory.
• Schedule and record physical inventory dates in the MMS system.
• Present and explain the inventory guide and process to store management teams.
• Support stores and conduct the necessary follow-ups throughout the inventory preparation process.
• Review and follow up on various management reports in MMS and SODA.
• Ensure all required documentation is properly completed by the stores.
• Ensure stores follow the required inventory counting, control and verification processes.
• Conduct physical verifications and audits to confirm the accuracy of inventory counts.

• Ensure significant variances have been properly validated, documented and justified.
• Record final inventory counts in MMS and SODA.
• Collaborate with Store Managers and various internal teams to resolve inventory-related issues.
• Participate, as required, in physical inventories at distribution centres and direct delivery centres.

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in retail; experience in the home improvement or construction industry is considered an asset.
• Hands‑on experience with physical inventories, inventory control, store operations or inventory variance analysis.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify, investigate and validate inventory variances.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to effectively prioritize multiple tasks.
• Detail‑oriented, thorough and highly accurate.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to adapt to different audiences.
• Ability to build strong business relationships with various internal and external stakeholders.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Outlook.
• Comfortable working with computer systems and inventory management systems; knowledge of MMS and SODA is considered an asset.
• Highly self‑motivated and capable of making decisions independently in a field‑based environment.
• Available to work occasional evenings, particularly during physical inventory events, as well as a few weekends per year.
• Available to travel frequently throughout Ontario and occasionally to other regions.
• Valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle.
