Job summary

Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) is hiring a freelance photo and video specialist to shoot and produce content for Marketing Services. You will report to the Manager, Branding and Marketing Operations and collaborate with leadership and the broader Marketing team to create engaging multimedia content across KPU's channels.

The role requires at least 2 years of direct photo/video experience, proficiency in After Effects, Premiere, Photoshop and Illustrator, and the ability to travel to all 5

Qualifications

  • Minimum two years of direct photo and video experience.
  • Creative, collaborative team-player with a passion for visual storytelling.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, receptive to feedback.
  • Proficient editing software and ability to optimize content for social platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Create engaging internal and external visuals and video content using KPU’s brand guidelines.
  • Lead pre-planning, storyboarding, and ideation for shoots and videos.
  • Serve as camera operator on shoots and events as required.
  • Edit photos and share internally/externally as required.
  • Operate editing software and equipment for video and graphics effects.
  • Edit videos with music, interviews, and sound clips, ensuring proper formatting.

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

This role reports to the Manager, Branding and Marketing Operations.

Summary

On a freelance basis, the successful candidate will shoot and execute photo and video services for Marketing Services at Kwantlen Polytechnic University. The successful candidate will report to the Manager, Branding and Marketing Operations and work closely with leadership, other members of the Marketing team, in addition to colleagues from across KPU to create engaging multimedia content that captures, informs and engages audiences.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create engaging internal and external visuals and video content using KPU’s established brand guidelines and visual elements
  • Work with team members on photo/video shoot pre-planning, storyboarding, and creative ideation, establishing a clear understanding of the storyline and purpose of the video's creation, and its desired look and feel
  • Serve as a camera operator on photo/video shoots and events as required
  • Edit photos in a timely manner and share internally and externally as required
  • Operate computer editing software and equipment used for video media, effects and motion graphics
  • Edit videos to include preselected music, interviews, sound clips and other important aspects of the project
  • Ensure the correct formatting and presentation for finalized videos according to specifications
Qualifications

  • A creative, collaborative team-player with a passion for visual storytelling
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and receptive to feedback
  • Proficient experience with editing software (After Effects, Premiere, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.)
  • Solid understanding of how to optimize video content for all social platforms
  • Access to your own equipment (University to provide laptop and editing software)
  • Duties will require the ability to travel to all 5 KPU campuses (Surrey, Langley, Cloverdale, and Richmond) and other locations in the Lower Mainland.

SALARY INFORMATION

Anticipated hourly pay rate: $32.00
