Job summary

LifeLabs Medical Laboratory Services is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to support specimen collection from greeting patients through to preparation for transportation. The role is casual, offering varied shifts and hours, with two positions available and a start date in September.

The successful candidate will perform phlebotomies, ECG tracings, and related specimen handling while maintaining patient privacy and delivering quality service.

Qualifications

• Completion of a recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent healthcare experience.
• Experience with phlebotomy, intravenous infusion and/or intravenous therapy is an asset.
• ECG training or experience is an asset.
• Proficient data entry and strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients, explain the specimen collection process and ensure test protocol compliance.
• Perform phlebotomies, connect/disconnect monitors, and conduct ECG tracings.
• Collect special test specimens and document related information.
• Maintain patient relationships and respond to inquiries.
• Enter required patient demographics and requisition data into systems.
• Prepare specimens for transportation and testing.
