Job summary

University Health Network (UHN) is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to support inpatient operations at Toronto General Hospital. You will assist pharmacists with drug distribution, prepare sterile and non-sterile products, and ensure accuracy in daily workflows across sites.

Requires completion of a Pharmacy Technician program, registration with the Ontario College of Pharmacists, and strong communication. Four duties include training staff, handling cytotoxic safety, and adapting to automated

Qualifications

  • Completion of a Pharmacy Technician Program at an accredited college or recognized equivalent.
  • Registration as a Pharmacy Technician (Part A) in good standing with the Ontario College of Pharmacists.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring the smooth functioning of pharmacy teams on various sites
  • Working under the direct supervision of the pharmacists
  • Preparing both sterile and non-sterile extemporaneous products
  • Participating in the training of new employees and performing other duties and responsibilities consistent with the job classification
  • A registered Pharmacy technician will be able to expand on their scope of practice to cost-effectively manage additional workflow

Hours: 37.5 Hours per Week
Shifts:Days, Evenings, Weekends, Overnights

Position Summary
As an integral member of the Pharmacy team serving inpatients and ambulatory care patients, the Pharmacy Technician is responsible for assisting the pharmacists in the technical aspects of drug distribution within the professional practice functional area.
Duties

  • Ensuring the smooth functioning of pharmacy teams on various sites
  • Working under the direct supervision of the pharmacists
  • Preparing both sterile and non-sterile extemporaneous products
  • Participating in the training of new employees and performing other duties and responsibilities consistent with the job classification
  • A registered Pharmacy technician will be able to expand on their scope of practice to cost-effectively manage additional workflow
    • Completion of a Pharmacy Technician Program at an accredited college or recognized equivalent required
    • Registration as a Pharmacy Technician (Part A) in good standing with the Ontario College of Pharmacists required
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Excellent interpersonal skills
    • Previous hospital experience with cytotoxic drug safe handling and sterile intravenous admixture service preferred
    • Ability to work under minimal supervision and to manage competing priorities/deadlines
    • Ability to learn and troubleshoot changing technologies/machinery (e.g. automated dispensing cabinets)
    • Previous hospital experience with automation technology preferred
    • Two years practical and related experience preferred
    • Membership with a professional pharmacy association is an asset
