Position Overview

Reporting to the Pharmacy Manager and under the general supervision of a Pharmacist or other Pharmacy Technician, the incumbent is responsible for:

  1. Procures stores, prepares, compounds, packages, maintains, issues, and distributes drugs, chemicals, and supplies in accordance with policy, directives, and procedures of the Regional Pharmacy Program. Completes related clerical duties (document, record, price, and filing).
  2. Reviews prescription information for compliance with federal and provincial law.
  3. Performs a final check on dispensed drugs, upon approval by the College of Pharmacists of Manitoba, when prepared by another technician, pharmacy assistant, student, or intern.
  4. Dispenses drugs if approved by a pharmacist.
  5. Identifies drug-related problems requiring referral to a pharmacist.
  6. Provides instructions to patients about medical devices.
  7. In outpatient pharmacy, receives instructions from practitioners for refilling prescriptions without changes.
  8. Performs tasks at external dispensing sites.
  9. Precepts and trains Pharmacy Technicians-in-training, students, assistants, and interns.
  10. Maintains current competencies related to pharmacy technician duties.
  11. Provides annual records of continuing education to maintain eligibility as a Pharmacy Technician.
Experience
  • One year experience as a Pharmacy Technician in a hospital setting preferred.
Education
  • Completion of ACCAPP accredited Pharmacy Technician certificate, or
  • Program prescribed by the College of Pharmacists of Manitoba for non-CCAPP accredited certificates.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Listed as a Pharmacy Technician with the College of Pharmacists of Manitoba (CPhM), or candidates must meet requirements within 3 months.
  • Ability to pass and maintain competency assessments.

This term position may end earlier as outlined in your collective agreement.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check, and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if obtained within six months prior to employment.
