Job Description - Pharmacy Technician Per Diem (536974)

Job Summary

The Pharmacy Technician under the direct supervision of the (Market) Manager/Director of Pharmacy or Registered Pharmacist – and according to the standards procedures—dispenses additives for IV and irrigating solutions, mixes IV additive solutions as required using aseptic technique with the laminar air flow hood, types labels, prepares and files charge slips, and performs other related duties.

Essential Functions
  1. Assists Pharmacist to prepare and dispense medication.
  2. Mixes pharmaceutical preparations, fills bottles with prescribed tablets and capsules, and prepares labels for bottles.
  3. Fills orders with correct medications. Prepares unit of use dosage when possible.
  4. Processes records of medication and equipment dispensed to patient, computes charges, and enters data in computer.
  5. Prepares intravenous (IV) packs.
  6. Generates required reports; pick IV, production reports.
  7. Performs backup procedures correctly.
  8. Recycles product as appropriate.
  9. Changes prep and expiration date on recycled product.
  10. Dates, times, and initials all vials for reuse.
  11. Prioritizes work (e.g., stat orders first). Delivers IVS to proper locations. Restocks shelves and rotates stock.
  12. Properly disposes of non-recyclable solutions.
  13. Receives and stores incoming supplies.
  14. Counts stock and enters data in computer to maintain inventory records.
  15. Returns medications to stock and rotates stock. Fills requisitions from nursing floors in a timely fashion.
  16. Calculates appropriate medication doses based on patient’s age (Adult and Geriatrics).
  17. Cleans equipment and sterilizes glassware according to prescribed methods.
  18. Communicates effectively (written and verbal) with clinical staff.
  19. Self-motivated, self-directed with excellent organizational skills.
  20. Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  21. Good math and science skills.
  22. Good stress coping skills.
  23. Must read, write, and speak fluent English.
  24. Must have good and regular attendance.
  25. Approximate percent of time required to travel: 0%
  26. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Salary Range: $21.37 - $27.10/Hour

Licenses/Certification
  • State Certification/Licensure if required by state.
Experience
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Pharmacy Technician in a hospital pharmacy setting preferred.
  • Basic understanding of the role of and use of a computer in the processing of prescription orders with minimum word processing skills.
