Job summary

Metro is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to support pharmacists in dispensary and pharmacy services at our Ottawa location. You will work under the pharmacist on duty and the Pharmacy Manager to meet goals while upholding Ontario standards of practice.

You will maintain patient profiles, process prescriptions, assist customers on the floor and at the register, and contribute to inventory control and compliance. This permanent role supports day, evening, and weekend shifts in a fast-paced team.

Qualifications

  • Education and licensure as required by Ontario standards.
  • Proficient with PC systems, MS Office and pharmacy software.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to work with diverse teams.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management abilities; patient-focused.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all aspects of the technical act of dispensing.
  • Receive prescription refill requests and verbal prescriptions per laws.
  • Provide customer assistance on the sales floor and at the cash register.
  • Complete the Recall Procedure for Pharmacy products.
  • Establish and maintain patient profiles and file records.
  • Contact prescribers as needed.
  • Answer phones and check voicemail; manage emails.
  • Perform inventory-related tasks and reconcile invoices/credits.
  • Maintain Rx shrink logs for inventory control.
  • Utilize wholesalers' websites for various functions.
  • Assist with dispensary paperwork and expanded scope activities.

What You’ll Do
  • Perform all aspects of the technical act of dispensing.

  • Provide customer assistance with merchandise on the sales floor and at the cash register.
  • Complete the Recall Procedure for Pharmacy products.
  • Establish and maintain patient profiles, and scan and file patient records.
  • Contact prescribers for various functions.
  • Answer phones and check IVR voicemail messages.
  • Check emails and respond accordingly.
  • Perform inventory-related tasks.
  • Enter and reconcile invoices/credits.
  • Maintain Rx shrink logs to assist in inventory management.
  • Utilize wholesaler websites for various functions.
  • Assist with dispensary paperwork as directed.
  • Perform all acts under the expanded scope of pharmacy practice.
  • Maintain store standards and conditions.
Qualifications
  • Education – CCAPP Accredited Pharmacy Technician Education Program.
  • Licensure – Registered Pharmacy Technician with the Ontario College of Pharmacists.
  • Proficient with current PC systems, MS Office programs and pharmacy software (Kroll).
  • Interpersonal skills to build strong working relationships and positive work environment.
  • Language skills to communicate clearly and listen carefully in a respectful manner.
  • Organizational skills to prioritize, plan ahead, manage time and be punctual.
  • Customer service skills to achieve customer satisfaction by recognizing customer needs/wants.
  • Receptivity to accept constructive feedback for continuous improvement.
  • Initiative to identify and complete tasks independently.
Key Relationships

As a Pharmacy Technician you will receive guidance from the Pharmacy Manager, Staff Pharmacist, and the Pharmacist on duty. You will engage with internal teams such as Pharmacy Operations, Pharmacy Services, Pharmacy Merchandising, Inventory Control and Audit, Store Services, McMahon, and Metro IT. Additionally, you will interact with external contacts, including direct pharmacy vendors like McMahon and Kroll Canada.
