Why this role is important?
SUMMARY:
To manage the overall operations of the Pharmacy, including providing consultation to customers and healthcare providers, practicing to full scope in professional services, dispensing medication, and assisting in the maintenance of the dispensary.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Pharmacy and Customer Service
- Acknowledge all customers approaching the Pharmacy
- Practice within federal/provincial, regulatory/legal requirements
- Ensure all privacy requirements are met, including customer confidentiality and consent management
- Provide counseling on prescriptions and over-the-counter products
- Practice to the full extent of expanded scope with Professional Services, within your capability
- Be clearly identifiable to the public
- Ensure accuracy and appropriateness of all prescriptions dispensed
- Communicate with other healthcare professionals within the circle of care to provide customer care
- Maintain all records required by legislation, standards of practice, and policy
Workflow and Inventory Management:
- Control access to the dispensary respecting inventory and patient confidentiality
- Review and maintain Workflow Queues daily
- Regularly review ‘will call’ bins according to SOPs
- Review stock to identify expired inventory
- Oversee current stock levels and medication orders from wholesalers
- Ensure compliance with documentation and control of substances under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and Regulations, including reporting to Health Canada and other regulatory bodies
Operations:
- Ensure workstations, counseling areas, and work islands reflect a professional image
- Participate in financial reporting as appropriate
- Read and act on store communications via the in-store web
- File incident reports for any medication or privacy incidents involving customers or staff
Experience, Skills & Qualifications:
- Independent thinking and decision-making skills
- Ability to plan, coordinate, delegate, and coach pharmacy colleagues
- Proven ability to drive and grow the business, lead by example, and support enterprise programs
- Exceptional customer service commitment
- Strong customer relations skills and professionalism
- Effective problem-solving skills with experience in action plan execution
- Personal computing skills and knowledge of pharmacy systems are assets
- Adherence to Health & Safety procedures for a safe work environment
- Completion of mandatory training and voluntary continuing education as needed
