Summary:

The Pharmacy Auditor will work closely with the Department's leadership team and multidisciplinary teams across the hospital involved in preventing and responding to drug diversion. The Pharmacy Auditor is responsible for gathering, interpreting, sharing, and influencing clinical, operational, and financial data related to controlled substances management and diversion detection and prevention across UNC HCS. This role also collaborates with the Pharmacy Analytics team for data warehousing needs related to controlled substances reports used for surveillance and investigations. The Pharmacy Auditor will monitor for drug diversion, reconcile medication discrepancies, investigate potential diversion cases, and educate staff on proper controlled substances management.

Responsibilities:

  1. Work independently using Excel to review, merge, and interpret data from multiple sources (EPIC/BO, KP, WorkForce Management).
  2. Monitor and resolve controlled substances discrepancies with Pharmacy, Nursing, and Anesthesia staff and leadership for timely reconciliation.
  3. Review medication transaction reports, safety reports, and police reports, analyzing data for patterns indicating drug diversion or workflow gaps.
  4. Collect, review, and trend data from various sources, incorporating findings into comprehensive audits.
  5. Create data visuals to depict audit findings and communicate results to leadership, providing follow-up data as needed.
  6. Present potential diversion cases to leadership and lead investigations to resolution.
  7. Manage multiple audits, tracking outcomes accurately across records.
  8. Identify and communicate concerns regarding controlled substances management during routine reviews.
  9. Collaborate with the Pharmacy Analytics team to develop reports, dashboards, and KPIs for surveillance and organizational insights.
  10. Maintain knowledge of data warehouses and support data warehousing projects related to controlled substances.

Education Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Health Care Administration or related field

Licensure/Certification Requirements: None required

Professional Experience Requirements: At least 1 year in healthcare compliance, auditing, or related activities involving medication discrepancy monitoring and investigation
