The University Health Network (UHN) is seeking a Part-Time Personal Support Worker for the Spinal Cord Rehab Program at the Toronto Rehab Institute – Lyndhurst Centre. This 20-hour-per-week temporary role reports to the Manager, Program Services and offers a wage range of CAD 31.70–32.61 per hour, starting in accordance with the collective agreement.

Shifts are days. The PSW collaborates with an interprofessional team to support daily living activities, document progress, and maintain a safe

Competenze

  • Current registration with the Health and Supportive Care Providers Oversight Authority (HSCPOA).
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certificate.
  • Behavioral management training (PIECES, U-First, CPI) is considered an asset.
  • Ability to handle daily mild to moderate physical exertion (standing, walking, climbing, reaching, movement).
  • Acute care and/or previous rehab experience considered an asset.
  • Good attendance record is required.

Mansioni

  • Assist patients with activities of daily living including feeding, lifts/transfers, bathing, skin care, oral hygiene and toileting.
  • Perform tasks delegated by an RN or RPN with appropriate education and training; RNs/RPNs oversee the PSW.
  • Communicate basic information according to the Plan of Care.
  • Maintain a safe environment by reporting unsafe conditions and changes in patient status.
  • Complete and maintain patient records and progress notes per hospital policy.

Position Summary

The Personal Support Worker (PSW) is a member of the interprofessional care team and is expected to maintain a collaborative and active working relationship with team members in the provision of patient care.

Duties
  • Assistpatients with activities of daily living: This includes feeding, lifts and transfers, bathing, skin care, oral hygiene, and toileting.
  • Perform tasks assigned or as delegated by an RN or RPN in compliance with the RHPA for whichappropriate educationand training has been completed. RNs and RPNs willbe responsible forthe oversight of the PSW when performing the assigned or delegated tasks. Delegated tasks can include actions that involve insertion of a digit or instrument into a body cavity, or any care or procedure under the dermis, for example.
  • Communicate anddemonstratebasic informationin accordance witha patient’s pre-established Plan of Care.
  • Ensure a safe environment for patients and staff by reporting and documenting unsafe conditions such as broken equipment as well as any patient behavioral, physical, or cognitive changes. Safety concerns must be reported to an RN, RPN or other regulated health provider, in compliance with patient safety responsibilities and corresponding hospital plans, policies and proceduresin order toensure a safe environment for patients.
  • Complete andmaintainrelated patient records and progress notes, as per hospital policy.
Qualifications
  • Current registration with the Health and Supportive Care Providers Oversight Authority (HSCPOA);
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)Certificate;
  • Behavioral management training (such as PIECES, U-First, CPI) is considered anasset
  • Ability to handle daily mild to moderate physical exertion (i.e.constant standing, walking, climbing, reaching and frequent movement) on an occasional to frequent basis;
  • Acute care and/orpreviousrehab experience considered anasset;
  • Good attendance record isrequired
