Job summary

Extendicare is seeking a Personal Support Worker (PSW) for a part-time, temporary position at Tendercare Living Centre in Scarborough, Ontario. Under the supervision of Registered Staff, you will provide direct care to residents, including ambulation, feeding, bathing, and grooming, while supporting their physical, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being.

You will work as part of a compassionate team, contribute to activity programs, and assist with meals and documentation.

Qualifications

• Completed a PSW program meeting MOE/NAC/OCO standards.
• Ability to read and write English and understand instructions.
• Nursing experience in long-term care is preferred.
• Mentally and physically able to perform duties.

Responsibilities

• Assist residents with ambulation, feeding, bathing and grooming.
• Encourage participation in activity programs and assist with moving to activities.
• Provide meal service and nourishment delivery; offer feeding assistance as required.
• Provide emotional and social support including palliative care to residents and families.
• Document care interactions and communicate with supervisor; participate in care conferences.

Under the direction of the Registered Staff, the PSW provides direct personal and nursing care to residents so as to fulfil the physical, intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual needs of residents in accordance to home polices, procedure and work routines. RESPONSIBILITIES· Assists in providing direct care for residents; assists with ambulation, feeding, bathing and grooming.· Encourages participation in activity programs by assisting residents to and from activities.· Assists with meal service and nourishment delivery to residents and provides feeding assistance as required.· Provides emotional and social support to residents/families including palliative care.· Adheres to established departmental policies and procedures regarding documentation, quality assurance, fire, safety, environment and infection control.· Consults with and informs supervisor of unit activities, needs and matters related to resident care.· Participates in care conferences and documentation related to resident care plans.
