Job summary

Baycrest Hospital in Toronto, ON, is seeking a Personal Support Worker for the Behavioural Neurology (4 West) unit on a temporary part-time basis. The role supports patients with dementia-related behaviours as part of a short-term in-hospital program.

The position offers Day-Evening shifts, SEIU Service union, and an hourly pay rate of CAD 26.96–27.66. Internal closing date is September 24, 2026; posting date is September 14, 2026.

Qualifications

• Current P.S.W. certificate from a recognized community college or equivalent.
• Experience in a Post-Acute or Acute Care setting preferred.
• Training in Gentle Persuasive Approach and U-First preferred.
• Psychogeriatric experience, i.e. dementia-related behaviours, preferred.
• Ability to work independently and as part of the interdisciplinary team, and effectively manage challenging situations.

Responsibilities

• Supports, in consultation with the Registered Practical Nurse/Registered Nurse, the physical and personal care needs of the client including, but not limited to: hygiene, grooming and dressing, toileting, recording nutrition and hydration intake, provision of preventative skin care
• Supports patients' independence, dignity, social, emotional and cultural well - being
• Initiates and maintains a relationship with the client, their family and other care providers

• Psychogeriatric experience, i.e. mental health assessment and intervention and working with responsive behaviours including various types of dementia, delirium, mental health issues preferred


• Ability to work independently and as a part of the interdisciplinary team, and effectively manage challenging situations


• Experience working with clients with cognitive impairment/dementia and experience working with clients who exhibit high intensity responsive behaviours preferred


• Excellent interpersonal, communication and problem solving skills


• Basic computer skills – Meditech, Microsoft Word and Excel preferred
