Job summary

Collingwood General & Marine Hospital (CGMH) in Collingwood, Canada, is seeking a Personal Support Worker for Med/Surg/Overflow on a temporary full-time basis to support capacity during the winter surge.

The PSW will provide compassionate ADL support, assist with transfers and daily routines, and participate in care across Med/Surg Overflow and acute units. CPR certification and PSW credentials are required; experience in fast-paced settings is preferred.

Qualifications

• PSW certification and/or partial completion of post-secondary nursing education.
• Previous experience in a fast-paced, rapidly changing atmosphere.
• Current CPR certification.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with activities of daily living (feeding, transfers, bathing, hygiene, toileting).
• Assist with medications and reminders in line with policy.
• Observe patients and report unsafe conditions or changes to supervisor.
• Complete and maintain progress notes and related Meditech documentation.
• Restock rooms, PPE, and procedure carts; assist with patient transfers within the hospital.

In the role of PSW, youwill provide compassionate support with activities of daily living, whilebuilding trusting relationships & creating positive experience for those inyour care.You will support thetemporary extended care in our Medica/Surgical/Overflow areas and may beassigned to either of the units based on acuity.

Asthe successful applicant, you will do the following:

• Assistpatient(s)with activities of daily living such as feeding, lifts and transfers,bathing, skin care, oral hygiene, and toileting
• Perform delegatedtasks which have been delegated by an RHP in compliance with the RHPA forwhich transfer of functional training has been completed, such asinsertion of a digit or instrument into a body cavity, care or procedureunder the dermis and any task or skill needing a physician’sprescription
• Assistwithmedication and medication reminders in accordance withestablishedemployer or government policy
• Observeperson(s)and their environments, and must report and document unsafe conditions andbehavioral, physical, and / or cognitive changes toan appropriatesupervisor
• Communicateanddemonstratebasic information to person(s) in relation to activitiesof daily living, mealplanningand preparation,in accordancewithpre-established Plan of Care
• Complete andmaintainrelatedrecords and documentation such as communication in Meditech in relatedprogress notes or interventions
• Restock variousareas such as patient rooms, PPE supplies & procedure carts
• Assist withpatient transfer to other areas within the hospital
