Job summary

UHN is seeking a Personal Support Worker to join the Cardiovascular Surgery and Cardiac Short Stay team at Toronto General Hospital. The role supports patient care, assisting with daily living activities and executing delegated tasks under RN/RPN supervision.

The position is a temporary part-time (6 months) with shifts 8 hours on days, up to 24 hours per week, and a start wage aligned to the collective agreement.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of a PSW program from an accredited community college.
• Registration with HSCPOA (Health and Supportive Care Providers Oversight Authority).
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certificate.
• Behavioral management training (PIECES, U-First, CPI) is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with activities of daily living (feeding, lifts/transfers, bathing, skin care, hygiene, toileting).
• Perform tasks delegated by an RN or RPN in accordance with RHPA with proper education and training; oversight by RN/RPN.
• Communicate basic information per Plan of Care and ensure a safe environment by reporting hazards and changes.
• Complete and maintain patient records and progress notes per hospital policy.
• Supports daily operations within acute care / rehab settings as needed.

Wage Range: $31.70 - $32.61 per hour (start rate is non-negotiable and in accordance with collective agreement requirements)

Hours: Up to 24 Hours per Week

Shifts: 8 Hour - Days/Alternate Weekends

Status: Temporary Part-Time (6 Months Contract)

Job Summary

The Personal Support Worker (PSW) is a member of the inter-professional care team and is expected tomaintaina collaborative and active working relationship with team members in the provision of patient care.

Duties

• Assistpatients with activities of daily living: This includes feeding, lifts and transfers, bathing, skin care, oral hygiene, and toileting.
• Perform tasks delegated by an RN or RPN in compliance with the RHPA for whichappropriate educationand training has been completed. RNs and RPNs willbe responsible forthe oversight of the PSW when performing the delegated tasks. Delegated tasks can include actions that involve insertion of a digit or instrument into a body cavity, or any care or procedure under the dermis, for example.
• Communicate anddemonstratebasic informationin accordance witha patient’s pre-established Plan of Care.
• Ensure a safe environment for patients and staff by reporting and documenting unsafe conditions such as broken equipment as well as any patient behavioral, physical, or cognitive changes. Safety concerns must be reported to an RN, RPN or other regulated health provider, in compliance with patient safety responsibilities and corresponding hospital plans, policies and proceduresin order toensure a safe environment for patients.
• Complete andmaintainrelated patient records and progress notes, as per hospital policy.

• Education: Successful completion of a PSW program from an accredited communitycollege;
• Registration with HSCPOA (The Health and Supportive Care Providers Oversight Authority);
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)Certificate;
• Behavioral management training (such as PIECES, U-First, CPI) is considered anasset
• Ability to handle daily mild to moderate physical exertion (i.e.constant standing, walking, climbing, reaching and frequent movement) on an occasional to frequent basis;
• Acute care and/orpreviousrehab experience considered anasset;
• Good attendance record isrequired
