Job summary

March of Dimes Canada is seeking a Part Time Permanent Personal Support Worker in the Northeast region – Elliot Lake.

The role involves providing in-home non-medical support, personal care, lifting/transfers, meal prep, and light housekeeping. Work includes mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays, with a starting wage of CAD 23.11 per hour (inclusive of a $3.00/hour government wage enhancement for hours spent directly supporting clients). Shifts vary and are not guaranteed.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 Diploma and/or PSW certificate required.
• Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification, or ability to obtain within 3 months.
• Experience with physical disabilities and client-based care.
• Knowledge of transferring, lifting, bowel and bladder routines and other attendant care duties.
• Ability to read, write and speak English.

This Opportunity:

We are currently looking to fill a Part Time Permanent Personal Support Worker position in our Northeast region – Elliot Lake.

Schedule: Includes mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Starting wage: $23.11 per hour . This compensation is inclusive of a $3.00 per hour wage enhancement from the Ontario government for hours spent directly supporting clients. The wage enhancement does not apply to training and paid leave.
Hours: Hours vary and are not guaranteed

Responsibilities:

Duties include the following:

• Assists clients in their own homes with non-medical activities of daily living in accordance with individual service plans and with March of Dimes Canada policies and procedures
• Personal care
• Lifts and Transfers
• Rising/retiring
• Bowel and bladder procedures
• Meal preparation and feeding
• Range of motion exercises
• Other light housekeeping duties
• Performs duties in a professional manner, which respects the dignity and right to privacy and maintains consumer and staff health and safety.
• The Personal Support Worker will be required to work multiple shifts (i.e. days, evenings, weekends, and holidays).

Qualifications:

• Grade 12 Diploma is a requirement and/or PSW certificate
• Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification, or the ability to obtain within 3 months of employment.
• Experience working with people with physical disabilities, experience/knowledge/understanding of Independent Living, or Client based care.
• Knowledge of and abilities in transferring, lifting, bowel and bladder routines and other attendant care duties.
• Physical Demands Self Analysis required upon hire.
• Good interpersonal, organizational and communication skills, including de-escalation techniques.
• Professionalism in dealing with team members and other service providers.
• Experience with mental health and behaviour management skills an asset.
• Ability to speak, read, and write English.
• Ability to work flexible and regularly scheduled hours, including evenings and weekends
• Driver’s license, and reliable means of transportation is a requirement of the position to travel to and from client homes.
