The PRGT FEED is an early engineering and pricing project for a natural gas pipeline across British Columbia, Canada. The supply chain team is working out of Bechtel's Houston office. Work includes preparing contracts for early design, geotech, survey as well as the pricing of major construction elements. There will be some support of material procurement.

Job Summary:

In this role, you will integrate environmental requirements into large-scale project planning documents, permit applications, design criteria, construction plans, schedules, and subcontract documents. You will provide input on bid decisions, identify new approaches, conduct inspections, and participate in emergency response. Your work will help reduce adverse environmental impacts of Bechtel projects.

Major Responsibilities:

Level 1

  • Assists execution of the environmental component of an ESH Program inclusive of technical and administrative aspects.
  • Helps prepare and implement Environmental Management Plans, associated environmental plans and procedures, and training program.
  • Provides input to Engineering, Construction, Procurement, Subcontracts, Commissioning, and other groups to assure that environmental requirements are integrated within project planning and execution.
  • Interprets environmental requirements and provides comprehensive assistance on plan preparation, risk assessment, and program execution.
  • Researches moderately complex issues and regulatory requirements, performs studies and environmental assessments, and prepares documentation and reports.
  • Provides support and guidance for environmental permitting, risk assessment, audits, and reviews involving site conditions, natural resources, cultural resources, and communities.
  • Participates in emergency response and incident investigation and resolution.
  • Participates in meetings with customers, team members, subcontractors, permitting agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • Conducts inspections and environmental monitoring and sampling to identify risks, evaluate mitigation measures and corrective actions, and assess compliance with contract, regulatory, project, and Bechtel requirements.
  • Provides guidance regarding environmental mitigation, permitting, sustainability concepts, and protection of environmentally sensitive areas, species, and communities.

Level 2

  • Facilitates execution of the environmental component of an ESH Program inclusive of technical and administrative aspects.
  • Interprets and integrates environmental requirements in proposals, planning documents, risk assessment, and program execution.
  • Helps establish emergency preparedness and performs incident investigations.
  • Participates in, or leads, meetings with customers, team members, subcontractors, permitting agencies, and other stakeholders.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Level 1

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) related to environmental sciences, field biology, or natural resources and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience

Level 2

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) related to environmental sciences, field biology, or natural resources and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of Canadian and British Columbia environmental regulations and experiences of regulatory permitting processes.
  • Demonstrated experience in Canadian or US regulatory applications and approval processes
  • Working knowledge of international financial institution environmental requirements and guidelines (e.g., IFC, World Bank) in developing EIAs and implementing mitigation measures for large industrial projects.
  • General knowledge of construction methods and environmental mitigation practices as related to large-scale (industrial) projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a project team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Skilled in working collaboratively with others in a complex integrated environment
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office suite of products.
