Job summary

University Health Network is hiring for a Perioperative Room Attendant in the Toronto General Hospital Operating Room. This temporary full-time role works 37.5 hours weekly on a 1100–1900 schedule, Monday through Friday, with a contract end date around December 18, 2026.

Start rate is non-negotiable; duties include stocking, transport, and patient care support in a fast-paced surgical setting. The position requires completion of Grade XI or equivalent, at least one year of related patient care

Qualifications

  • Completion of Grade XI or recognized equivalent.
  • One year experience in a related patient care capacity.
  • Ability to speak, read, write and comprehend the English language.
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and other relevant legislation.
  • Knowledge of the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS).
  • Knowledge of hospital policies, procedures, guidelines, protocols and practices.
  • Knowledge of handling contaminated materials.
  • First Aid/CPR certification an asset.
  • Ability to set up and maintain operating room equipment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team delivering care to surgical patients.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Must be flexible to work all shifts.
  • Physically capable of daily patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Assists Perioperative Services by stocking supplies and providing direct patient assistance.
  • Performs transport and environmental support within the unit and adjacent areas.
  • Performs cross-functional duties and other tasks as assigned for the shift.

Duties

As a member of the Perioperative Services team, the Perioperative Room Attendant performs direct and indirect patient care functions, including:

  • Performing service functions in support of Perioperative Services i.e. stocking supplies; performing direct patient assistance functions
  • Performing transport functions; performing environmental support and maintenance services within the Perioperative Services unit and adjacent work settings
  • Performing cross‑functional duties; performing other assigned tasks and duties consistent with the job classification, as assigned for the shift.
  • Completion of Grade XI or recognized equivalent
  • One (1) year experience in a related patient care capacity
  • Ability to speak, read, write and comprehend the English language
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and other relevant legislation
  • Knowledge of the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (W.H.M.I.S.)
  • Knowledge of applicable Hospital and departmental policies, procedures, guidelines, protocols and practices.
  • Knowledge of procedures for handling contaminated materials
  • Standard First Aid/ Basic Rescuer Cardio‑Pulmonary Resuscitation (C.P.R.) certification an asset
  • Ability to set‑up and maintain the equipment, tools and instruments common to the Operating Room environment, within scope of responsibility
  • Must have the ability to work collaboratively as an active participant with others in assisting with the delivery of the care to surgical patients
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to perform responsibilities in a courteous manner
  • Must be flexible to work all shifts
  • Physically capable of performing the daily activities associated with patient care
