Job summary

University Health Network (UHN) in Toronto is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for the Princess Margaret Cancer Care site. You will join a multi-disciplinary team to deliver compassionate, evidence-based cancer care across 37.5 hours weekly, with 12-hour day/night shifts in a permanent full-time role.

Relevant nursing registration in Ontario is required; oncology experience and IV skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • BSN preferred as an advanced nursing qualification.
  • Chemotherapy course preferred for specialized care.
  • Oncology nursing certification preferred for advanced practice.
  • Excellent IV skills and knowledge of vascular access devices.
  • Strong verbal and written communication with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to lead, organize and make decisions in clinical settings.
  • Commitment to self-directed learning and attendance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide compassionate, collaborative nursing care in accordance with UHN standards.
  • Ensure practice aligns with professional ethics and CN Ontario guidelines.
  • Engage in continuing education to meet patient population needs.
  • Perform reflective practice to improve patient care quality.
  • Share responsibilities with the multi-disciplinary team and perform assigned tasks.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Shifts: 12 hours Days/Nights - Monday - Friday
Status: Permanent Full-Time

Position Summary

As a member multi-disciplinary Team, the Registered Nurse practices in accordance with relevant legislation/standards, the UHN Professional Practice Model and the mission and vision of nursing at the UHN to provide compassionate, collaborative and competent care, while meeting the legal and ethical requirements of the profession

Duties:
  • Applying knowledge of nursing science, theory, skill and critical decision making in the provision of compassionate, collaborative and competent care in accordance with the UHN Professional Practice Model for Nursing and the mission and vision of nursing at the UHN;
  • Ensuring practice is consistent with professional standards and the ethical framework as outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario and the UHN policy and procedure;
  • Demonstrating commitment to professional life long learning by participating in continuing education activities to meet the needs of the patient population served and the standards of the profession;
  • Performing reflective practice, analyzing and evaluating nursing knowledge and modifying practice accordingly to improve the quality of nursing and patient care;
  • Performing cross-functional and other responsibilities, as assigned and/or requested.
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing preferred
  • Completed Chemotherapy course preferred
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (B.C.L.S.) and C.P.R. certification
  • Previous Oncology experiencerequired
  • Oncology nurse certification preferred
  • Excellent IV skills required
  • Working knowledge of Central Venous Catheters, Port-a-cath and PICC lines
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Evidence of co-operative and facilitative relationships while working with a multidisciplinary team, and the ability to work independently
  • Evidence of good physical assessment, psycho-social, and patient/family teaching skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to utilize the nursing process in planning, implementing and evaluating patient care
  • Demonstrated leadership/in-charge skills, and evidence of strong organizational and decision making skills
  • Evidence of commitment to self-directed learning
  • Satisfactory attendance in accordance with UHN's Attendance Management Program
