Job summary

Clearpoint Health Network's New Westminster Surgical Centre is seeking Registered Nurses for Pre-Op, PACU, and Phase 2 Discharge. This part-time role offers a 0.5 FTE schedule and involves working with surgeons and anesthesiologists across the perioperative journey.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited nursing education program and 2-3 years in acute PACU.
• Active/eligible for registration with BC Nurses Professionals.
• Peri-anesthesia or critical care certification and related training.
• BCLS-HCP and ACLS certifications are current and valid.
• Experience with IV initiation, intubated patients, and ECG analysis.

Responsibilities

• Perform pre-operative nursing assessments and review history, meds, and allergies.
• Confirm patient identity, procedure, consent, and readiness for surgery per protocol.
• Document vital signs and complete pre-operative assessments.
• Educate patients about the procedure, recovery, and discharge expectations.
• Establish IV access and administer medications as ordered.
• Identify and escalate concerns to the physician/anesthesiologist.
• Ensure all documentation and surgical checklists are complete before OR transfer.
• In PACU, monitor airway, vitals, pain, nausea, and recovery status.
• Provide post-anesthesia care and communicate with care team.
• In Phase 2, monitor recovery, discharge criteria, and provide post-op instructions.
