Job summary

Clearpoint Health Network Inc. is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for the PACU at the New Westminster Surgical Centre in British Columbia. This casual, part-time role involves collaborating with the care team to provide high-quality post-anesthesia care.

Required qualifications include an accredited nursing program, active BC registration, BCLS-HCP and ACLS, with recent PACU experience. The centre emphasizes infection control, patient safety and ongoing education.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited nursing education program with current BC registration.
• Canadian Nurses Association peri-anesthesia or critical care certs preferred or equivalent education/experience.
• Active Basic Cardiac Life Support for Health Care Providers (BCLS-HCP) and ACLS required.

Responsibilities

• Collaborates with health care team to deliver patient care.
• Adheres to infection control policies and medication handling procedures.
• Documents patient care accurately in the medical record.
• Communicates effectively with team members and patients.
• Maintains patient confidentiality and supports facility operations.

a division of Clearpoint Health Network is recruiting for an experienced Registered Nurse- PACU. We are hiring Casual, Part Time.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Collaborates with all members of the health care team.
• Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection control policies, medication administration and storage procedures and controlled substances regulations.
• Documents patient care appropriately in the medical record.
• Participates cooperatively and communicates effectively with team members.
• Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
• Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and participating in professional societies.
• Participates in educational programs as required.
• Assists with the orientation and support for new staff to the facility.
• Performs related duties as assigned by leader.
• Maintains compliance with all company policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications:

• Completion of an accredited nursing education program combined with 2 – 3 years recent experience in an acute care post-anesthetic care unit environment, with at least 4-6 months current PACU experience within a tertiary setting.
• Active/eligible for registration and practice permit with the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals.
• Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) peri-anesthesia certification or critical care certification/Completion of a post-secondary educational institution peri-anesthesia nursing or critical care nursing program/Completion of a health authority peri-anesthesia or critical care education program and/or the equivalent in education and experience.
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
• Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
• Certification and recent experience with IV initiation.
• Experience with care of an intubated patient.
• Experience with ECG analysis.
• Advanced knowledge of regional anesthesia, neuroaxial anesthesia, multimodal analgesia and chronic pain.
• Adaptable to a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
• Ability to maintain a physically demanding job.
• Must be able to work staggered shifts, possibly extended shifts.
• Excellent assessment, organization, communication and team interaction skills.
• Current immunization for hepatitis B, influenza, measles, mumps, rubella, tetanus, and diphtheria.
• Current tuberculin skin testing (within 6 months before date of hire).

Physical Requirements:

• The work environment is physically demanding and may require different levels of physical exertion, such as lifting and transferring patients.
• At times, RNs may work in challenging and stressful circumstances, such as in an emergency situation.
• During the course of their work RNs may be exposed to blood, body fluids, infectious diseases, chemicals and other safety hazards.
