Job summary

CHEO in Ottawa, a leading pediatric health system, is hiring an Anesthesia Assistant to support physicians in delivering anesthesia and sedation. The role includes preparing equipment, setting up intravenous lines and monitors, assisting with induction, airway management, and patient monitoring during anesthesia and recovery.

The ideal candidate will have Clinical Aesthesia Assistant Certification, pediatric critical care exposure, CPR/BCLS, and CRTO/CSRT membership in good standing.

Qualifications

• Clinical Anesthesia Assistant Certification required or ability to obtain within two years.
• Minimum one-year experience as an Anesthesia Assistant preferred.
• Pediatric critical care experience preferred.
• CRTO/CSRT certification or membership in good standing essential/preferred.
• Current CPR and BCLS certifications essential.
• Member in good standing with CRTO essential; CSRT preferred.
• Demonstrated strong interpersonal and collaborative practice skills essential.
• Commitment to continuing education including independent learning essential.
• Vulnerable Sector Check Level 3 essential.
• Bilingualism French/English preferred.

Responsibilities

• Work within the Anesthesia Care Team to provide anesthesia and sedation for CHEO patients.
• Prepare, maintain equipment and provide technical support for anesthetic care; set up lines and monitoring; administer medications.
• Assist with induction of anesthesia and airway management under supervision of anesthesiologist.
• Monitor patient during anesthesia and recovery; draw blood as required.
• Assist with cardiac surgery and cardiac catheterization cases and with transport of patients.
• Set up and monitor blood scavenging system for major surgery; participate in QA and research; educate students and residents.
