Job description

Calgary, AB, Burnaby, BC, or Prince George, BC

This is a permanent, full-time leadership opportunity, as EDI’s People and Culture Director, for an experienced Human Resources (HR) professional who wants to help shape how an established, employee-owned company develops its people and leaders.
A Director will own EDI’s People and Culture function, advise senior and regional leaders, and lead company-wide practices that support EDI’s culture, growth and business priorities. This is a strategic leadership role with a strong hands-on component, suited to someone who is comfortable moving between executive-level advice, employee relations, workforce planning, training, and day-to-day HR operations.
A key focus of the role will be advancing EDI’s approach to leadership development, career pathways, succession planning, Professional Development Plans (PDPs), and knowledge transfer as the company continues to grow.

Our benefits include:
  • Competitive compensation, including health benefits, profit-sharing and employee share ownership programs
  • A commitment to long-term development through opportunities and support for professional advancement (e.g., internal mentorship, annual professional development budget)
  • Working with a team of established industry leaders who excel in the fields of aquatic and terrestrial biology
  • A challenging, dynamic, engaging and rewarding work experience

Since EDI started 32 years ago, our people have defined our culture and have been instrumental in our success. As we continue to grow, we look for team members who want to make a difference by helping people and the environment. Our culture focuses on teamwork, a positive attitude, and adaptability to dynamic situations. We promote innovation at all levels. Our members are self-motivated, enthusiastic for continual improvement and effective communicators. Through relationships built among team members, we realize that EDI is not just a company, it is our company.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:
  • Leading and supporting the People and Culture function as a hands-on generalist, balancing strategy, operations, and day-to-day execution.
  • Working closely with one other People and Culture team member to provide reliable, practical, and responsive support to employees and managers.
  • Supporting executive and regional leaders with workforce planning, succession planning, organizational design, retention, and people-related decision making.
  • Leading EDI’s training and development strategy, supervisor and project manager training, leadership development, career pathways, and PDP alignment.
  • Providing guidance on employee relations, performance management, workplace investigations, accommodations, and sensitive employee matters.
  • Confirming people practices are consistent, compliant, and aligned with employment standards and EDI values.
  • Supporting recruitment and hiring processes, including job postings, interview support, candidate communication, and onboarding coordination.
  • Supporting development of practical consulting capability training, including communication, risk management, project awareness, and client service expectations.
  • Partnering with our Finance team and leadership staff on compensation, benefits, headcount planning, and People and Culture budgeting.
  • Strengthening employee engagement, communication, retention, and ownership culture.
We are looking for someone with:
  • A desire to have a meaningful impact on an established, growing and employee-owned company.
  • Can operate confidently as both a strategic advisor and an experienced HR generalist.
  • Builds credibility through sound judgment, practicality, and follow-through.
  • Is comfortable challenging existing approaches when there is a better way to achieve the desired outcome.
  • Can translate broad organizational objectives into practical programs, systems, and actions.
  • Has strong organizational and interpersonal skills and can effectively manage competing priorities.
  • Demonstrates exceptional judgment, discretion and professionalism when handling confidential and sensitive matters.
  • Has strong attention to detail and accuracy, while maintaining a broader organizational perspective.
Job requirements include:
  • Senior-level human resources, people operations, or people and culture generalist experience, preferably in a professional services, consulting, technical, environmental, engineering, or project-based organization.
  • Strong background across employee relations, training program development, recruitment, onboarding, compliance, performance management, benefits, HR operations, and manager support.
  • Comfort operating in a hands-on role where strategic leadership and day-to-day execution are both required.
  • Demonstrated experience partnering with leaders on performance, employee relations, organizational effectiveness, and people practices.
  • Experience building or supporting training, onboarding, leadership development, or employee development programs.
  • Ability to connect people strategy with business goals, workforce planning, and financial realities.
  • Practical, service-oriented approach with the ability to balance consistency, compliance, and flexibility.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, prioritize competing needs, and follow through on commitments.
  • Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation or equivalent experience.

Application deadline: September 20, 2026
The typical compensation range for this position is from $90,000 – $120,000 annually; the compensation offered will reflect the successful candidate’s relevant knowledge, skills, experience, qualifications, and alignment with EDI’s compensation structure.
At EDI, we are committed to providing an environment of mutual respect where equal employment opportunities are available to all applicants and teammates.
