Responsibilities

  • Calculate and process pension entitlements for retirement, termination, death, disability, and marital breakdown.
  • Serve as main contact for plan members; respond to inquiries and requests on pension matters.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders (employers, actuaries, auditors, unions) on benefits entitlement and procedures.
  • Audit member contributions, salary, service credits, and accruals.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date member records.
  • Support service purchases and transfers between pension plans.
  • Review pension calculations, buybacks, and pensioner payroll adjustments.

Reporting to the Director, Pension Administration, the Pension Analyst will be part of a collaborative team committed to delivering accurate, timely, and exceptional service to members and pensioners in accordance with plan provisions, legislation, internal policies, and service standards.

The successful candidate will bring strong analytical, problem-solving, and customer service skills, along with experience in pension, benefits, financial services, or a related field. They will contribute their expertise to support the Pension Administration team in interpreting plan provisions and addressing complex pension matters.

What You Will Do
  • Calculating and processing pension entitlements related to retirement, termination, death, disability, and marriage breakdown.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for plan members, responding to inquiries and requests on all pension related matters.
  • Communicating and coordinating with members, employers, union representatives, actuaries, auditors, and other third-party representatives regarding benefits entitlement, data, and administrative procedures.
  • Perform audits of member contributions, salary, service credits, and accruals.
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date member records.
  • Supporting service purchases and transfers between pension plans.
  • Conducting peer review and first-level approval of pension calculations, service buybacks, and pensioner payroll additions/terminations.
  • Reviewing reports to identify and resolve errors, including any required adjustments.
  • Reviewing semi-monthly payroll files for accuracy and completeness, prior to submission to payroll provider.
  • Preparing and filing applicable government forms, including pension adjustment and past service pension adjustment documentation.
  • Managing workflow in the pension administration system to help ensure service level metrics are met.
  • Supporting seminars, member communications, data maintenance, system testing, forms, documents, and internal reference materials.
What You Bring
  • A college diploma or bachelor's degree in business administration, mathematics, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in pension and/or benefit administration.
  • Completion of, or active progress toward, the Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) designation or Pension Plan Administration Certificate (PPAC); a commitment to obtaining either designation will also be considered.
  • Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and accountability.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex information clearly and professionally.
