Job summary

Phoenix Drug & Alcohol Recovery and Education Society is seeking a Part Time Peer Support Worker to assist residents with recovery and capacity-building. The role requires lived experience with substance use or mental health issues and a commitment to empathetic, safe engagement.

Based at Bentley Place, the position involves weekend evenings (Saturday–Sunday 3:00 pm–11:00 pm) and collaboration with an interdisciplinary team under the Program Manager.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent combination of education, training and experience such as a certificate in Community Social Services.
• Approximately 1 year of experience, including lived experience, in recovery, recovery in substance use or co-occurring substance use, and/or mental health issues.
• Satisfactory completion of criminal records check with vulnerable sector screening is required.
• Satisfactory completion of Tuberculosis Screening form is required.
• Satisfactory completion of Employee Immunization Record form is required.
• First aid certification with CPR is required, and a valid driver’s license is required.

Responsibilities

• Provide peer-based support and guidance to service recipients as part of an interdisciplinary team.
• Support service recipients using motivational and self-disclosure approaches.
• Assist with skill-building, goal attainment, empowerment and recovery through peer mentorship.
• Provide emotional support and observe clients for unsafe conditions or health changes.
• Document statistics, progress reports and daily logs to support case planning.
