Job summary

The Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre (DEWC) in Vancouver is seeking a Peer Service Navigator. You will help women access internal and external services and work with DEWC staff to promote integrated supports from a feminist, anti-oppression perspective.

Ideal candidates have 2+ years’ experience with marginalized women, knowledge of gender-based violence, mental health, homelessness, and addictions, and hold First Aid and NVCI certifications.

Qualifications

  • Has at least 2 years related experience with marginalized women.
  • Knowledge of issues affecting women in the DTES, including gender-based violence, mental health, homelessness, and addictions; trauma-informed care.
  • Ability to work in busy, crisis-driven environments and prioritize tasks.
  • Strong organizational skills including record keeping, scheduling, and problem-solving.
  • Experience providing assisted referrals and familiarity with community resources in the DTES.

Job description

The Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre (DEWC) exists to support and empower women and children, living in extreme poverty in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver, who are particularly vulnerable to violence, exploitation, injustice and injury. Through low barrier Drop-In Centers and Emergency Shelters, DEWC provides basic need services, programs, and specialized supports to over 1000 women and children daily to help them survive the conditions that surround them. The Opportunity

The Peer Service Navigator will facilitate women’s access to internal and external services and supports. She will work with women who are homeless or at risk of homelessness and who live in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver. Reporting to the Specialized Services Manager she will work in collaboration with other DEWC staff to promote integrated services to women. She will work from a feminist perspective and within an anti-oppression framework.

About You
  • You have at least 2 years related experience, preferably working with marginalized women.
  • You are knowledgeable of the issues impacting women in the dtes, including gender-based violence, mental health, homelessness, and addictions with understanding of trauma-informed care responses.
  • You have the ability to work within busy, chaotic, crises driven environment where there are multiple demands and prioritize.
  • You have efficient organizational skills including record keeping, scheduling, and problem-solving abilities.
  • You have demonstrated experience providing assisted referral as well as familiarity with support services, agencies and community resources in the dtes.
  • You have or will obtain a First Aid Certification and NVCI.

  • Permanent Full Time
  • Work Schedule: Week 1 – Sunday (10am - 4:30pm) , Monday to Thursday (9:30am - 6pm)

Week 2- Monday to Thursday (9:30am - 6pm)

  • Location – 412 Cordova
  • Union: BCGEU / Salary $30.22
