Employment Opportunity: Community Care Coordinator
The West Central Women’s Resource Centre (WCWRC) provides services and programming to women, gender-diverse folks, and their families in the West Central neighbourhood of Winnipeg. WCWRC is person-centered and practices empowerment, inclusion, harm reduction, multi-level, and community economic development philosophies to support participants experiencing poverty, homelessness, mental illness, violence, substance use or participating in sex work.

Position Summary:
The Community Care Coordinator ’s role is to respond to the impacts of the intersecting crises being faced by many in our community, including the impacts of the toxic drug supply , by providing participant-led, culturally grounded, trauma-informed, and harm reduction oriented supports . The Community Care Coordinator recognizes that recovery and wellness are not linear journeys. Participants may be at different stages of readiness regarding substance use, treatment, housing, healthcare, family reunification, and healing. Th is role will walk alongside participants wherever they are in that journey—building trusting relationships, reducing harm, supporting informed decision-making, and creating pathways to health and wellness . Working in collaboration with other Drop-in staff they will provide supports and connections to community resources and are responsible for creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for the visitors of the centre and building trusting relationship with our participants.

Salary Range: $27-30/hour ( includ ing vacation pay, benefits and RRSP )
Time requirement: 37.5 hours/week
Duties and Responsibilities
Harm Reduction and Overdose Prevention
- Promote harm reduction as a participant-centered approach that prioritizes dignity, safety, and informed choice.
- Provide educationregardingsafer substance use practices and overdose prevention.
- Distribute naloxone kits and provide naloxone training to participants, families, and community members.
- Provide educationregardingsafer consumption supplies and available harm reduction resources.
- Assistparticipants in developing individualized overdose prevention and safety plans.
- Monitor emerging trends related to the toxic drug supply and communicate relevant information to theWCWRCteam.
- Participate indrug poisoning andoverdose responsesasrequiredwhile working collaboratively with the Drop-In Team and emergency responders.
- Support participants followingdrug poisoning oroverdose events through debriefing, emotional support, and connection toadditionalservices.
- Contribute to creating a welcoming, non-judgmental environment where participants feel safe discussing substance use and related concerns.
Treatment Navigation
- When participantsidentifythey are ready for treatment, support them to accessappropriate avenuesfor treatment includingwithdrawalmanagementservices, detox programs, Rapid Access to Addictions Medicine (RAAM) Clinics, and residential treatment program
- Provide educationregardingavailable treatment options.
- Assistparticipants in accessing Opioid Agonist Therapy (OAT) where appropriate.
- Provide accompaniment to medical appointments when appropriate.
- Support participants in completing applications, consent forms, and other required documentation.
- Advocate with healthcare providers and serviceproviderswhen barriers arise.
- Maintain supportive contact before, during, and following treatment whenever possible.
- Support participants experiencing relapse with compassion, recognizing relapse as apossible partof the recovery journey.
Systems Navigation and Community Connections
- Provide referrals to internal WCWRC programs and external community agencies.
- Build andmaintainrelationships with relevant community partners
- Support participants in obtaining identification and accessing financial benefits, whereappropriate.
- Assistparticipants in developing safety plans related to substance use, intimate partner violence, exploitation, homelessness, or other risks.
- Provide accompaniment to appointments, meetings, and community services asrequired.
- Work collaboratively with participants toidentifypriorities and coordinate supports across multiple systems.
Drop In Support
- Create a welcoming atmosphere in the Drop-In for all participants
- Address conflicts that arise in drop-in
- Be fully aware of WCWRC activities,programmingand staffin order todirect inquires appropriately
- Provide referrals to the Centre’s staff and programs and those of other agencies or services
Programming
- Support group programming related to substance use and recovery, as requested by participants
- Track statistics and data of service provision and provide regular reports andidentifiedtrends to the Director of Community Serviceson a monthly basis
Other
- Sit on relevant community networks, asrequired
- Attend andparticipatein regular staff and committee meetings
- Be available with discretion, for other assigned duties asrequired
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong preference will be given to candidates who have similar lived experience to the community that we serve
- High school diploma or combination of education and experience
- Demonstrated ability to work within anti-oppression and anti-racism frameworks
- Strong understanding of empowerment and harm reduction philosophies
- Superior problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
- Class 5 Driver’s License
- Ability to multi-task and adapt to changing priorities
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
- Strong interpersonal skills; able to work effectively with diverse individuals
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Well-developed computer skills including the use of Microsoft Office and Outlook
Preferred:
- Experience working within the non-profit sector
- Understanding of Community Economic Development concepts
- Experience working collaboratively with community organizations
Working Conditions:
- There is a risk of exposure to potentially unpredictable behaviors and situations
