Job summary

CHEO in Ottawa seeks a Laboratory Technologist to perform biochemistry procedures in accordance with protocols and licensing. You will operate and maintain equipment and participate in method evaluation and QA to ensure accurate results.

The ideal candidate holds MSc or BSc in a health-related field, is licensed with the CMLTO, and demonstrates teamwork, precision, and problem-solving in a busy CHEO lab.

Qualifications

• MSc or BSc in Laboratory/Health Related Field preferred.
• Minimum 1 year experience in a Biochemistry lab or high-throughput lab preferred.
• Experience in lab/test method development and optimization preferred.
• Active CMLTO registration or equivalent recognition essential.
• Knowledge of mass spectrometry and chromatography techniques preferred.
• Demonstrated teamwork, initiative and customer service essential.

Responsibilities

• Perform procedures within the laboratory according to protocol and licensing regulations.
• Operate and maintain all equipment necessary to carry out these procedures.
• Recognize need for additional procedures and perform tests as required.
• Identify technical problems or unusual test results and take corrective action.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of procedures and method evaluation.
• Participate in quality assurance and routine QA activities.
• Provide coverage for technicians when required and keep a clean, safe workspace.
• Contribute to development and method evaluation and support safety regulations.
