Job summary

Public Health Ontario currently seeks a Medical Laboratory Technologist for contract positions in Toronto to support high-volume diagnostic testing. You will perform standardized tests and ensure timely reporting of results to healthcare providers.

The role requires CMLTO certification in good standing, strong lab skills, and a commitment to quality and privacy. You will also mentor staff and participate in IQMH and PHO quality initiatives.

Qualifications

• Mandatory: Certification in good standing with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO).
• Knowledge of and ability to perform medical/environmental laboratory techniques and operate lab equipment.
• Familiar with privacy, confidentiality, and health information standards.

Responsibilities

• Conduct standardized medical tests for bacteria, fungi, parasites, viruses, and antibodies.
• Report results to healthcare providers within PHO’s published TAT.
• Authorize release of results and discuss with clients per CMLTO rules.
• Maintain quality assurance and participate in proficiency testing.
• Mentor Laboratory Attendants and support staff; train new staff.
• Support IQMH requirements and PHO quality management program.
• Work full-time, with assigned shifts and reliable attendance.
