CHEO in Ottawa seeks a Laboratory Technologist to perform procedures in a biochemistry lab and operate essential equipment in a fast-paced environment.

The role requires 1+ year of experience, active CMLTO registration, and strong teamwork with attention to accuracy and safety. Bilingual French/English is preferred; position is based at CHEO in Ottawa.

Competenze

  • Qualified candidate with MSc or BSc in laboratory/health field; fast learner and adaptable.
  • Minimum 1 year in a biochemistry or high-throughput lab with complex workflows.
  • Current active CMLTO registration or equivalent recognition required.
  • Experience with mass spectrometry or chromatography is preferred.

Every year CHEO helps more than 500,000 children and youth from Eastern Ontario, western Quebec, Nunavut and Northern Ontario.POSITION SUMMARYPerform procedures within the laboratory in accordance with protocol and licensing regulationsOperate and maintain all equipment necessary to carry out these proceduresRecognize the need for additional procedures and performs tests as requiredIdentify technical problems or unusual test results and take appropriate corrective actionMaintain up-to-date knowledge and skill level of all relevant proceduresParticipate in development and method evaluationConform to all laboratory safety regulations, and follow specific instructions of the designated safety officerPerform additional duties to ensure the efficient functioning of the laboratory (e.g. cleaning equipment, maintaining solutions/supplies, keeping a clean and safe work place)Provide coverage for technicians when requiredParticipate in the quality assurance program (e.g. routine QA activities of the laboratory, review of procedures, and timely reporting of discrepancies and incidents)QUALIFICATIONSMSc or BSc. Degree in Laboratory/Health Related Field. (Preferred)Minimum of 1 year experience in a Biochemistry laboratory and/or high throughput laboratory with complex batch workflows (Preferred)Experience in laboratory/test method development and optimization (Preferred)Current registration as active technologist with the CMLTO and license in relevant disciplines or equivalent qualifications with recognition from the CMLTO (Essential)Working knowledge of mass spectrometry and chromatography technology and techniques (Preferred)Demonstrated team work, initiative, and customer service skills (Essential)Accuracy and precision in performing laboratory procedures (Essential)Ability to organize workload, and good work habits (Essential)Professionalism and ability to exercise good judgment (Essential)Criminal Record Check (Level 1) (Essential)Bilingualism (French/English) (Preferred)*Timeline may be extended or shortened based on operational needs.*Please note you will be represented by the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU).
