Pediatric ICU Research Assistant, Paediatrics

Description

The Department of Paediatrics in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Pediatric ICU Research Assistant. This part-time fixed-term position is for approximately 6 months (based on grant funding) with the possibility of extension.

The Pediatric ICU Research Program supports clinical research studies at the Alberta Children's Hospital Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). As a member of the PICU Research team, this position reports to the Program Manager and involves working closely with staff in the PICU. The role is approximately 28 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop understanding of clinical trial protocols and create training materials, ensuring compliance with GCP and ICH guidelines.
  • Translate protocols into data collection tools within REDCap.
  • Review patient chart information to determine study eligibility.
  • Ensure adherence to protocols during informed consent and study activities.
  • Screen patients and carry out protocol activities with excellence.
Communication and Relationships
  • Coordinate with clinical staff about research requirements and patient safety.
  • Build collaborative relationships within the research team and clinical staff.
  • Communicate respectfully with patients and families during their care and participation.
Administrative Duties
  • Assist with research materials and manuals.
  • Manage own workload and keep PIs and the Program Manager informed.
  • Maintain accurate records of patient status and data entry.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a health-related field; graduate or nursing degree preferred.
  • At least 2 years of clinical research experience; critical care, pediatric, emergency medicine, or oncology experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with REDCap database design.
  • Excellent communication skills, especially with patients and families.
  • Experience with informed consent, data cleaning, and medical records access preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and research databases.
  • Ability to work in a hospital environment, especially in ICU settings.
  • Must have current Police and Vulnerable Sector checks and vaccination records.
