Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of payroll coordination experience, preferably in a unionized environment.

What will you do?

  • Process bi-weekly union and non-union payrolls ensuring compliance with legislation, contracts, policies, and procedures
  • Verify and process time reports and adjustments for payroll accuracy
  • Collaborate with Human Resources on data verification and process integration
  • Ensure payroll accuracy and meet pay deadlines
  • Handle employee expenses and mileage claims with Accounts Payable
  • Manage employee status changes, leaves, and related payroll adjustments
  • Configure and maintain relevant payroll modules
  • Calculate and process compensation changes, retro payments, and related updates
  • Process new hires, transfers, terminations, and other payroll changes
  • Serve as payroll subject matter expert and provide employee training
  • Submit electronic Records of Employment to Service Canada
  • Transmit deposits, manage year-end activities, and prepare remittances
  • Maintain payroll security and confidentiality
  • Prepare month-end journal entries and reconcile accounts
  • Compile reports, statements, and summaries as needed
  • Ensure compliance with safety and privacy standards

Other payroll or related duties as required.

Minimum qualifications:

  • 3-5 years payroll coordination and administration experience, preferably in a unionized environment
  • Strong knowledge of payroll requirements, legislation, and reporting
  • Understanding of collective agreements and employment standards legislation
  • Knowledge of accounting practices related to payroll
  • Experience with payroll systems (Quadrant preferred) and report generation
  • Advanced computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Professional, courteous, and respectful approach
  • Supportive of employee inquiries and confidentiality
  • Proficient in English; French or other languages an asset

Additional considerations:

  • Canadian Payroll Association certification is an asset
  • Experience in healthcare or public sector preferred
