Phasor Engineering - Payroll Specialist

Phasor Engineering is a dynamic North America-based company specializing in engineering, design, panel fabrication, and testing/commissioning of high voltage electrical facilities. Our focus is on incorporating the latest technological advances to provide cost-effective and efficient power system engineering solutions. We are involved in diverse projects from conceptual engineering through to commissioning and startup.

We are currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced Payroll Specialist to join our team on a full-time basis. This role will be based in our Calgary, AB office.

If you are an excellent communicator and skilled problem-solver with strong attention to detail, we offer a dynamic work environment where you will be challenged in all aspects of testing and commissioning. The successful candidate will participate in our ERP implementation (JD Edwards) later this year, aiding in readiness and implementation planning.

Responsibilities
  1. Prepare full-cycle payroll, including review and balancing of payroll allocations (rates of pay, deductions, hours, burdens, statutory remittances, etc.).
  2. Complete weekly Canadian and US payroll processes.
  3. Ensure payroll controls are in place to maintain process integrity and confidentiality, and implement new processes as needed.
  4. Manage year-end payroll activities, including preparing and filing T4s, W-2s, and other documentation.
  5. Own the payroll calendar and ensure all deliverables are met timely.
  6. Process payroll accurately and promptly for hourly and salaried staff using relevant systems, adhering to policies and procedures.
  7. Audit payroll work for accuracy and provide backup support to senior payroll staff as required.
  8. Review policies and procedures, and assist with process improvements and initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Designated Payroll Professional certification is an asset.
  • 5+ years of full-cycle payroll experience, handling multi-province Canadian and multi-state US payroll.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information tactfully and discreetly.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to negotiate and influence outcomes.
  • Experience collaborating with accounting, finance, and HR teams to ensure accurate and timely employee payments.
  • Experience with payroll reconciliation and submission of monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems, preferably JD Edwards.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office and internal operating systems.
