Job summary

Compass Commercial Realty LP is seeking a Payroll & HR Manager to lead payroll processing, benefits administration and broad HR support across the employee lifecycle. You will report to the president and partner with Finance on payroll reconciliations and budgeting.

The role emphasizes accuracy, discretion, and a practical, common-sense approach to HR, with responsibilities spanning recruitment, onboarding, policy administration and employee engagement.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education required.
  • 7–10+ years progressive payroll, benefits and Human Resources experience.
  • Demonstrated experience independently administering payroll.
  • Strong experience with group benefits and retirement/RRSP administration.
  • Working knowledge of employment standards, payroll legislation and contemporary HR practices.
  • PCP designation through the National Payroll Institute required.
  • CPHR designation would be considered an asset, but not required.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office and payroll/HR information systems.
  • Experience with Payworks platform would be considered a strong asset.

Responsibilities

  • Manage year-end payroll processes, including preparation and reconciliation of T4s.
  • Respond to payroll inquiries from employees and management.
  • Maintain current knowledge of payroll legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Work closely with Finance/Accounting on payroll reconciliations, reporting and budgeting information.
  • Administer group insurance and retirement/RRSP programs.
  • Coordinate enrolments, changes, terminations and eligibility for benefits.
  • Serve as liaison between employees, benefit providers and advisors.
  • Prepare communications regarding benefit programs and changes.
  • Provide day-to-day HR guidance and support to employees and managers.
  • Support managers in interpreting HR policies and procedures.
  • Assist with employee relations matters and recruitment actions.

Venor is proud to partner with Compass Commercial Realty LP for their search of a Payroll & Human Resources Manager. Reporting directly to the president, this position plays a critical, hands‑on role and is responsible for the administration and coordination of the organization’s payroll, employee benefits and Human Resources programs. While payroll and benefits administration represent a significant component of the position, the role also provides broad Human Resources support to employees and management throughout the employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, policy administration, performance‑management processes and employee engagement. The position requires an individual who combines strong payroll and administrative expertise with sound judgment, professionalism and a practical, common‑sense approach to Human Resources.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Payroll Administration – Take primary responsibility for the accurate and timely processing of employee payroll.
  • Maintain payroll records and process new hires, terminations, compensation changes, deductions, taxable benefits and other adjustments.
  • Review and reconcile payroll prior to processing and investigate discrepancies.
  • Administer vacation, statutory holiday and other payroll‑related entitlements.
  • Coordinate statutory remittances and payroll reporting requirements.
  • Manage year‑end payroll processes, including preparation and reconciliation of T4s and related reporting.
  • Respond to employee and management payroll inquiries.
  • Maintain current knowledge of payroll legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Work closely with Finance/Accounting on payroll reconciliations, reporting and budgeting information.
Benefits & Retirement Programs
  • Administer the organization’s group insurance and employee benefit programs.
  • Coordinate employee enrolments, changes, terminations and eligibility.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between employees, benefit providers and advisors.
  • Administer the organization’s retirement/RRSP program and coordinate employee and employer contributions.
  • Reconcile benefit premiums and retirement contributions.
  • Participate in annual benefit plan reviews and renewals.
  • Prepare employee communications regarding benefit programs and changes.
Human Resources
  • Provide day‑to‑day HR guidance and support to employees and managers.
  • Support managers in interpreting and applying HR policies and procedures consistently.
  • Assist with employee relations matters, escalating sensitive or complex issues to senior management when appropriate.
  • Coordinate recruitment and selection activities for vacant positions.
  • Prepare offers of employment and coordinate onboarding and orientation.
  • Manage employee changes throughout the employment lifecycle, including promotions, transfers, leaves and departures.
  • Coordinate offboarding and exit processes.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee files and HR records.
Performance, Policies & Employee Programs
  • Coordinate annual employee performance review/check‑in processes and related documentation.
  • Assist management with employee goal‑setting and performance documentation.
  • Maintain and update HR policies, procedures, forms and employee communications.
  • Monitor changes to employment legislation and recommend updates to policies or practices as appropriate.
  • Assist with employee engagement, recognition, training and professional‑development initiatives.
  • Support workplace health, safety and wellness initiatives as required.
  • Prepare HR reports, employee statistics and other information for senior management.
What you’ll bring:
