Job summary

Altis Technology seeks a Payroll Operations Manager to lead payroll services, ensuring accuracy, compliance and continuous improvement. The role involves guiding a high‑performing team, collaborating with Finance, HR and IT, and driving automation initiatives to enhance service delivery.

The ideal candidate will have extensive Canadian payroll knowledge, strong leadership, and experience navigating complex regulatory environments within a dynamic organization.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting and payroll experience, including management or leadership roles.
  • University degree in Business Administration or equivalent, plus a PCP or CPM payroll designation.
  • Expert knowledge of Canadian payroll regulations, taxation, pension administration and related requirements.
  • Experience interpreting collective agreements within a unionized environment.
  • Strong systems knowledge, including enterprise HRIS and payroll applications, with PeopleSoft preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead accurate, timely and compliant payroll operations while fostering a collaborative, client-focused team.
  • Provide technical guidance on complex matters, including taxable benefits, severances, retiring allowances and special payments.
  • Ensure compliance with payroll legislation, collective agreements, pension requirements, organizational policies and internal controls.
  • Oversee reconciliations, reporting, journal approvals and third-party payment processes.
  • Partner across HR, Finance and IT on system enhancements, testing and evolving business requirements.
  • Identify opportunities for automation, workflow redesign and process improvements that strengthen service delivery.

About the Opportunity

Step into a key leadership role as a Payroll Operations Manager, where youll help ensure payroll services are accurate, compliant and continuously improving. Reporting to the Director of Payroll Services, youll collaborate closely with Finance, Human Resources, IT and internal stakeholders to deliver seamless payroll operations and an excellent client experience.

This opportunity is ideal for an experienced payroll professional who enjoys combining technical expertise with people leadership, problem-solving and change management. Youll guide a high-performing team, navigate complex payroll matters and help strengthen processes, systems and services across a dynamic, highly regulated organization.
