The location in Crofton is seeking talent to fill the position of Payroll Coordinator.

Job Summary

The Payroll Coordinator is accountable for time capture and all related transactions associated with the hourly unionized payroll. The Payroll Coordinator maintains accurate records and distributes reporting associated with employee pay, consistent with company policy, union collective agreements, and appropriate government and legislated regulations.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Maintains immaculate data integrity and legislative compliance of the time capture and payroll reporting system, timecard rules, and scheduling programs.
  • Performs payroll operations for hourly employees; manage workflow and validate reports to ensure all payroll transactions are processed in an accurate and timely manner, consistent with workplace rules and the collective agreement(s).
  • Communicates and follow up with supervisors and managers for appropriate approvals and timecard adjustments to ensure adherence to the collective agreement.
  • Prepares and distributes routine and adhoc reports to various interested parties, as required by internal and external customers, stakeholders and user groups.
  • Assists employees with access to the employee self-service portal(s) in addition to responding to employee inquiries in a friendly and timely manner.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with internal and external service providers to ensure pay and benefit programs are administered appropriately with fiscal and financial accountability.
  • Is a subject matter expert, providing support, training and guidance for site leadership and team members.
  • As the subject matter expert, actively engages and participates in projects and initiatives, in a continuous improvement environment.
  • Work closely and effectively with other departments to enhance working relationships and efficient administration of programs.
  • Assist in the development and presentation of materials to employees such as pre-retirement program, annual benefit re-enrolment, and Mill newsletter, as required.
  • Performs general administrative/support work relevant to the Human Resources and Finance departments.

Job Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Post secondary education in finance, human resources or business administration.
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) or Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) designation, or the equivalent demonstrated experience.
  • A minimum of five (5) years experience processing payroll or directly supporting the payroll process in a complex unionized environment. Experience in an industrial and/or manufacturing setting will be an asset.

  • Demonstrated ability for data analysis, reporting and assembling documents using high level applications of Microsoft Excel, Access, PowerPoint and related applications.
  • Working knowledge of payroll system(s), accounting functions, intermediate math and calculation skills – experience with Kronos and SAP are a plus.
  • Customer service focused ensuring regular two-way conversations throughout the organization.
  • Excellent written, verbal and electronic communication skills including the ability to articulate complex information in manner that is easily understood to non-payroll individuals.

The salary for this position is CAD $76.5k-85k per year. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
