Job Description
Human Resources Services (HRS) is an internal function providing global operations and business support across Brookfield’s lines of business.
Reporting to the VP HRIS and Payroll Operations, the Manager, Payroll Tax Compliance is responsible for supporting the US payroll operations team, which includes executive, union and non-union employees, director’s fees, and retirees, and benefits. The Manager will ensure compliance with Federal and State legislation as well as Fair Labor Standards Act that applies to payroll and ensuring compliance with company policies and SOC1 requirements.
Partnering with the respective Brookfield companies’ HR and Finance teams, the incumbent oversees the annual compensation process from a payroll perspective, oversees and approves payroll journal entries and general ledgers, benefits and union dues funding.
The Manager, Payroll Tax Compliance is also responsible for working with the Brookfield HRIS team for Workday HRIS payroll and benefits tables and codes administration and to create Workday HRIS environment change requests and validate test results when received before they are put into production.
Responsibilities
Manage and ensure compliance with all payroll tax regulations in both Canada and the U.S.
Prepare, review, and file payroll tax returns (federal, state/provincial, and local) on a timely basis.
Reconcile payroll tax filings to payroll system data and general ledger.
Oversee the registration and maintenance of employer tax accounts in new jurisdictions.
Lead audits and resolve any tax-related inquiries or issues with government agencies.
Stay current with payroll tax legislation and implement necessary changes in systems and processes.
Collaborate with payroll, accounting, HR, and external vendors to ensure accuracy in tax deductions and reporting.
Provide training and support to payroll staff on tax-related matters.
Analyze tax liabilities and ensure accurate year-end processes including W-2s (U.S.), T4s (Canada), and other annual reports.
Monitor and manage payroll tax system configurations and integrations with third-party providers.
Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities.
Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum 10 years of payroll management experience (specifically processing and running payroll)
Minimum 3 years of people management experience (in a Payroll Management capacity)
FPC certification required; CPP preferred
Excellent understanding of payroll and accounting
Working knowledge of Workday
Strong relationship management skills, with a focus on internal client management
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Employs exceptional interpersonal skills
Ability to travel 5-10% of the time (international travel)
New York Salary Range: $120,000 - $130,000
Our compensationstructure is comprised ofa base salary and a short-term incentive program (cash bonus). Cash compensationtends to vary based on geography to account for local market conditions and is set to be market competitive. Compensation decisions are based on a number of factors including relative experience, overall years of experience, industry experience, education and designations.
