Job summary

A leading company in veterinary services is seeking a Privacy and Compliance Lead to ensure that privacy policies and compliance programs are effectively implemented. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders and a strong understanding of Canadian privacy laws. Ideal candidates will have significant experience in leading privacy and compliance initiatives, particularly in regulated environments, and possess relevant educational qualifications. This is a remote position available to candidates across Canada.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in privacy and compliance roles.
  • Strong knowledge of privacy laws applicable in Canada, including Quebec.
  • Experience in regulated industries preferred.

The role leads Data Privacy and Compliance at VetStrategy, the Canada division of IVC Evidensia (IVCE), ensuring that the IVCE Privacy and Compliance programs are effectively implemented and ensuring that key laws and regulations are adhered to. The successful candidate will work closely with business stakeholders, including IT, HR, Marketing and Communications at VetStrategy, as well as with the IVCE Group Privacy, Compliance and Data Protection Team. This is a remote role open to candidates in Canada.

Key Responsibilities

Data Privacy

  • Act as the Canadian Privacy Officer in overseeing privacy-related matters.
  • Advise on Canadian Federal and Provincial privacy laws and regulations, including in Quebec.
  • Conduct Privacy Impact Assessments where legally required or where deemed advisable.
  • Implement and advise on compliance with privacy policies, procedures and training.
  • Advise the business on procurement due diligence and contracting, marketing and websites, technology services and product development, information security for data protection, and other business issues relating to data privacy.
  • Manage privacy-related inquiries, incidents, data breaches and work with the SVP, Legal, Canada, Group Data Protection Officer and Information Security regarding notices to appropriate regulators.

Compliance

  • Ensure that IVCE’s Compliance Programme including the Code of Conduct, whistleblowing line and Compliance policies and training are effectively communicated and implemented across VetStrategy.
  • Identify whether global Compliance policies need to be localised, and develop local procedures and guidance documents where required.
  • Provide advice and guidance to the business to ensure that activities are compliant with company policies, laws and regulations, including by designing controls and mitigations.
  • Lead / support Group Compliance (as appropriate) with Compliance review approvals, risk assessments, monitoring and investigations at VetStrategy.
  • Provide engaging live training where required.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Leadership Experience: Minimum of 7 years of experience in privacy and compliance roles. Experience in regulated industries e.g. healthcare, financial services, etc. preferred.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. Proven track record of cross-functional influencing and collaboration, with strong stakeholder management.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills across all levels of an organization.
  • Conflict Resolution: Demonstrated ability to effectively resolve conflicts within a team, utilizing strong interpersonal and communication skills to mediate disputes and foster a collaborative work environment.
  • Multinational Organizational Experience: Experience working in a large or multinational organization.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree. Strong knowledge of privacy laws and regulations applicable in Canada, including Quebec. Bachelors of Laws/Juris Doctor degree is preferred. CIPP/C or similar regulatory certification preferred.
  • Pragmatic, adaptable and commercially focused.
