Job summary

Sienna Senior Living is hiring a Payroll Analyst in Markham, Ontario. The role reports to the Manager, Payroll Compliance and supports monthly reconciliations, remittances, garnishees, PTO audits, and payroll adjustments in a fast-paced environment.

The position requires 3–5 years of payroll/ accounting experience, a finance-related degree, advanced Excel skills, and strong data analysis. On-site at the corporate head office with comprehensive benefits and salary range noted.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Commerce or related discipline.
  • 3–5 years’ experience with Payroll and/or Accounting with payroll process experience.
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) is an additional bonus.
  • Advanced user of Microsoft Excel – Look Up, Tables, Formulas; ability to prepare reports.
  • Ability to analyze data and provide recommended solutions.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge on legislative changes and union agreements.

Responsibilities

  • Complete monthly GL reconciliations using Yardi; prepare reclass journal entries and guide payroll admins.
  • Assist in preparation of third-party remittance requisitions and reconciliations; verify remittances.
  • Manage monthly Garnishee remittances and distribution of payment cheques.
  • Audit and validate PTO balances bi-weekly and adjust entries for terminations.
  • Support payroll calculations related to union agreements and ratified agreements.
  • Assist in year-end processing, government filings and reconciliations.
  • Contribute to special projects and payroll changes required by legislation or unions.

What You’ll Be Doing:

Reporting to the Manager, Payroll Compliance, the Payroll Analyst will support with the following accountabilities:

  • Complete monthly GL reconciliations using the financial application (Yardi). Prepare necessary reclass journal entries and provide guidance to payroll administrators on payroll adjustments and updates. Liaise with Finance on G/L inquiries and escalations.
  • Assist in preparation of third-party remittance requisitions, reporting, file submissions and reconciliations. Verify payroll tax remittances and third party remittances against supporting payroll records before submitting to payroll manager for approval.
  • Manage monthly Garnishee remittances including requesting monthly payments, updating garnishee list, and distribution of payment cheques.
  • Audit and validate PTO balances on bi-weekly basis and prepare adjustment entries to clear out balances for terminated employees.
  • Support and work with Payroll team on payroll calculations relating to union collective agreements and new ratified agreements.
  • Assist in year-end processing, annual government filings and reconciliations.
  • Assist the payroll compliance team with special projects, and implementation of payroll changes required by legislations or union agreements
Who you are:
  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Commerce or related discipline
  • 3 – 5 years’ experience with Payroll and or Accounting with payroll process experience
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) is an additional bonus
  • Advanced user of Microsoft Excel – Look Up, Tables, Formulas, with ability to prepare reports
  • Ability to analyze data and provide recommended solutions.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge (legislative changes, collective agreement ratifications)
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment and independently in a fast paced environment with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize.
  • Effective verbal and written English communication skills required.
