Job summary

EQ Bank, Canada\'s Challenger Bank, is seeking a Director of Payments Risk & Compliance in Toronto. You will lead first-line risk ownership for B2B Payments, establishing a comprehensive risk framework and partnering with Product, Legal, Compliance, and external partners to enable compliant innovation.

The role emphasizes governance, control design, and program risk management across third-party, credit/financial, regulatory, and reputational risk.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of experience in risk management, compliance, or payments, preferably within payments / banking or fintech.
• Deep expertise in payments ecosystems, including BIN sponsorship, prepaid/credit programs, PaaS models.
• Strong understanding of Canadian regulatory environment (RPAA, FINTRAC/AML, FCAC, OFSI).
• Experience leading audit/regulatory engagements and remediation programs.
• Bachelor degree in Business Administration, Finance or related field. Masters degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead first-line risk ownership for all B2B Payments activities.
• Oversee design and execution of controls across TP risk, credit/financial, operational, and regulatory risks.
• Partner with product and implementation teams on risk assessments for new initiatives.
• Provide executive risk reporting to senior leadership and Board committees.
