Hillside Church in North Vancouver is seeking a part-time pastor to join their leadership team, focusing on preaching, discipleship, and administration. Ideal candidates will have a theological background and a passion for community involvement. The position offers flexible hours and opportunities for personal development in preaching as part of a supportive team.
Hillside Church Pastoral Vacancy
(Summer 2025)
Hillside Church is a growing, multi-generational, evangelical church in North Vancouver, British Columbia (www.hillsidebaptist.ca). As followers of Jesus we seek to love God with all of our heart, mind, soul and strength; love each other in humility and grace; and love our neighbours as ourselves. We have a clear sense of God’s call for us as a church community—Embodying Christ’s healing love to each other and our neighbours.
To this end, we gather weekly to worship together and remind each other of the good news of Jesus; we pray regularly for one another and our world; we practice hospitality as a community by hosting a preschool, a school-aged program, and another local church (St. Timothy’s Anglican Church) in our building; we encourage generosity and doing good to be a blessing to each other and our neighbours on the North Shore.
Hillside Church is a congregational church led by elders and ministry team leaders. Our pastoral leadership team is currently comprised of three paid elders (or staff pastors), two full-time and one part-time (20 hr/wk) who work together in a shared leadership role. Since the part-time staff pastor will soon be retiring, we are seeking another person for this team. (This will also be a part-time position, approx. 20 hr/wk.) We are looking for someone whose pastoral gifts and passions are in discipleship, preaching, and administration; someone who is enthusiastic about partnering with others on a team based on giftings.
The ideal candidate will have previous pastoral experience with demonstrated pastoral skills in relationship-building, preaching, and church community involvement. There will be plenty of opportunities for preaching and developing as a preacher since the pastoral staff are all a part of a preaching team. Additionally, we are looking for someone with a clear sense of God’s calling to ministry, a good self-understanding which includes being able to articulate strengths and weaknesses, spiritual gifts, and how they have experienced Christ’s healing love.
Some responsibilities related to the pastoral position would include:
The position requires a person with theological training, ideally a Masters-level degree. Though it is not necessary to be ordained, this person should fully support our Baptist convictions, particularly our congregationalism, our desire to empower every member of the congregation for mission and ministry, and our commitment to women serving as leaders in church ministry. The role is part-time, and will be paid according to qualifications and experience, in accordance with recommended salaries by the Canadian Baptists of Western Canada (CBWC) of which Hillside Church is affiliated (www.cbwc.ca).
If your primary giftings are found in relationship-building, preaching and administration—and you are drawn toward working in an empowering team environment, then we encourage you to explore this possibility with us by submitting your resume and cover letter to Jeff Schuliger.
The position will be posted until July 31st unless it is filled before then.
