Job summary

Extendicare is seeking a Housekeeping Aide in Canada to support cleaning and sanitization of resident apartments and common areas. The role involves following schedules, operating cleaning equipment, and maintaining safety standards within our long-term care homes.

The position requires good English communication, reliability, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Prior experience in healthcare or institutional cleaning is preferred.

Qualifications

• Good oral and written English communication skills.
• Ability to provide feedback on a day-to-day basis.
• Knowledge and experience with standard institutional cleaning techniques.
• Previous experience in commercial, residential, or healthcare cleaning and laundry procedures is desirable.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job.
• Proficiency in a second language is an asset.
• Must provide a complete and current Vulnerable Sector Check (Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one.

Responsibilities

• Clean areas according to assigned schedules using appropriate cleaning and sanitation methods and procedures.
• Clean residents' apartments and common areas, including furniture, kitchen and washroom fixtures, walls, ceilings, lights, vents, and windows.
• Operate floor care machines and steam cleaning equipment.
• Strip, scrub, spray, and buff all carpet and non-carpet floor surfaces.
• Pick up garbage and transport it to designated areas.
• Adhere to established residence policies and procedures, including safety rules and safe working practices.
• Prepare documentation as required according to residence policy.
• Be aware of the Residents' Rights & Responsibilities and endeavor to respect and promote them.
• Attend in-service training as required to better serve the needs of residents.
• Attend staff meetings as required to remain aware of changes within the residence.
• Participate in the Quality Improvement Program.
• Work in a position of trust with vulnerable adults (residents).
• Uphold and promote the organization's values and philosophy, particularly relating to ethics, morality, and integrity, as outlined in Extendicare's Code of Conduct.
• Complete other duties as assigned.
