Job summary

The City of Kingston is seeking a part-time School Crossing Guard to assist and supervise school-age children at crossings across multiple locations. The role is a replacement position with up to two openings, offering a pay rate of 18.44 CAD per hour and requiring the ability to work split shifts.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children and/or adolescents.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector.
• Ability to make quick and accurate decisions while keeping safety of children in mind.
• Good observation skills and the ability to interact with children and the general public in a positive manner.
• Must be available to work split shifts and be able to provide your own transportation.
• Able to perform the essential duties of the job including standing for long periods of time, outdoors and in all weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Remain aware of traffic situations.
• Display crossing sign and guide children safely across roadways.
• Ensure the safety of children crossing streets and intersections.
• Maintain a pleasant, courteous and helpful attitude toward children, guardians and the general public.
• Model and reinforce proper behaviour and adherence to safety rules.
• Report dangerous driving, crossing practices or issues to the appropriate authorities.
