Job summary

SOUTHLAND Halifax is hiring School Bus Monitors to support drivers on trips to and from school, ensuring the safety of students with varying ages and needs. You’ll assist with loading, securing, and unloading children including those in wheelchairs or car seats.

This part-time role features split shifts roughly 6:00–9:30 a.m. and 1:00–4:30 p.m., school-year schedule with July/August and holiday time off; childcare experience is welcomed, CPR/First Aid training is provided by SOUTHLAND.

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate effectively with children, co-workers, parents and teachers.
• Organized, punctual and reliable.
• Experience in childcare/working with children considered an asset.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Clear Criminal Record, Vulnerable Sector Check, and Child Abuse Registry Check.
• First Aid & CPR certification (covered by SOUTHLAND).

Responsibilities

• Bus Monitors support the bus driver during the trip to and from school each day and must be capable of managing a group of students of varying ages, needs and behaviors.
• This includes loading, securing, and unloading children in wheelchairs and car seats.
• You will work a split shift roughly 6:00 am - 9:30 am and 1:00 pm – 4:30 pm; school-year schedule with time off in July/August and holidays.
