Job summary

SOUTHLAND Halifax is hiring School Bus Monitors to support drivers on daily school trips. You will help manage students of various ages, ensuring safe loading, securing and unloading, including wheelchairs and car seats.

You will work a split shift, roughly 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon, with routes from early morning to mid-afternoon, during the school year, with July and August off.

Qualifications

  • Ability to communicate effectively with children, co-workers, parents and teachers.
  • Organized, punctual and reliable.
  • Experience in childcare/working with children considered an asset.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Clear Criminal Record, Vulnerable Sector Check, and Child Abuse Registry Check.
  • First Aid & CPR certification (covered by SOUTHLAND).

Responsibilities

  • Support the bus driver during the trip to and from school.
  • Manage a group of students of varying ages, needs and behaviors.
  • Load, secure, and unload children in wheelchairs and car seats.
  • Work a split shift (approx. 2 hours in the morning and 2 in the afternoon).
  • Operate on routes between 6:00 am–9:30 am and 1:00 pm–4:30 pm during the school year.
  • Take time off during July and August and school holidays.

Job Description

Bus Monitors support the bus driver during the trip to and from school each day and must be capable of managing a group of students of varying ages, needs and behaviors. This includes loading, securing, and unloading children in wheelchairs and car seats.

As a Bus Monitor, you will work a split shift, working approximately 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon. You will be assigned a route that falls between the hours of 6:00 am - 9:30 am in the morning and between 1:00 pm – 4:30 pm in the evening.

Bus Monitors work during the school year and are given time off in July and August and school holidays.
