Job summary

The Town of Whitby is seeking friendly, safety‑minded Ice Patrol staff to help run Public Skating sessions and support arena operations. The hybrid organization enables flexible work locations as appropriate for the role.

You will greet patrons, monitor safety, verify admissions, enforce capacity, provide minor first aid, wear CSA‑approved helmet, assist with skating aids, and take direction from supervisors while contributing to a positive community experience.

Qualifications

• A minimum Grade 10 education.
• Current certification in Standard First Aid and CPR/AED (Level C).
• Proficient skating abilities with a solid understanding of safe on-ice practices.
• Able to communicate orally in a clear and concise manner.
• Ability to stand/skate for extended periods in a cold environment.
• Well-developed interpersonal and public relations skills.
• Discretion, judgement and diplomacy in interactions with the public.
• Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector screening prior to employment start date.

Reporting to the Supervisor, of Recreation & Community Programs, the Ice Patrol staff are responsible for the safety of the participants during Public Skating sessions

Duties Include

• Greeting patrons in a welcoming and friendly manner
• Demonstrate and encourage safe etiquette by monitoring and controlling the flow and speed of skaters;
• Verify that all participants have proper admission;
• Enforcing rules and regulations including capacity limits, with an emphasis on the safety of the patrons;
• Providing minor assistance to patrons, providing minor first aid as required, complete accurate documentation for all accidents and incidents;
• Work in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and adhere to the Town and facility service standards and policies
• Wear appropriate protective equipment at all times, including skates, a CSA-approved helmet;
• Assist with set‑up and take‑down of skating aids and equipment
• Move nets and support arena operators during games or events
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

What You Bring To Our Team

As the successful applicant, you must possess:
