Job summary

Durham College seeks an experienced Part-time Professor to teach Millwright courses. Position Information

Durham College is seeking an experiencedand motivated professional who shares our commitment to quality and studentsuccess. The Faculty of Skilled Trades and Apprenticeship requires a part-timeprofessor to teach Millwright courses.
Part-time faculty teach up to 6 hours per week with varied schedules Mondaythrough Thursday between 8:00 am and 9:0pm, Friday between 8:00 am and 6:00pm, and Saturday between 8:00am and 6:00pm.Part-time recruitment isongoing and is dependent on when courses are being taught and the need forfaculty to teach.
Academic starting wages are determinedbased on qualifications and years of related experience. Upon hire, theincumbent will receive a pay calculation to determine their ‘step’ placementwithin the pay range. Part-time professors will be paid on the applicable wagegrid, which currently ranges from $80.62 through $139.88 per teaching contacthour.

The responsibilities of Durham College Part-time Professors include, but are not limited to:
  • Creating a positive learning environment that accommodates students’ diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences, and individual learning styles;
  • Utilizing principles of adult education to actively engage students in the learning process;
  • Effectively using educational technologies to support learning, manage and post grades, and deliver hybrid and on-line courses;
  • Assesses student achievement of learning outcomes and supports student progress through individual tutoring, academic counselling, and timely feedback;
  • Developing curriculum that uses appropriate strategies and tools to assess student learning;
  • Ensuring that course and program curriculum is current and relevant;
  • Working independently and demonstrating initiative; and\
  • Working effectively with students, the program team, and a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will meet or exceed the following qualifications:
  • Certificate of Apprenticeship and/orCertificate of Qualification and/or Red Seal endorsement in IndustrialMechanic Millwright (433A)
  • A minimum of five years of recent and relevantwork experience as a Journeyperson
  • Experience teaching at the secondary orpost-secondary level is an asset
  • Relative training and a commitment to lifelonglearning in the field
  • A proven ability to work within acollaborative environment, demonstrating flexibility
  • Exceptional communication and organizationalskills
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal andproblem-solving, conflict and stress management skills
  • Understanding of the Ontario college system

Preference will be given to candidates withrelevant educational credentials and a proven track record of relevantwork/teaching experience. Applicants must have the appropriate education,accreditation or trade certification and successful candidates will be asked toprovide proof of completion. Acceptable documentation may include copies ofdiplomas, degrees, or certificates; an official transcript; and, whereapplicable, an official equivalency evaluation for international credential.
